WAN Encapsulation
Data from the network layer is passed to the data link layer for
delivery on a physical link.
The data link layer builds a frame around the network layer
data so that the necessary checks and controls can be applied.
Each WAN connection type uses a Layer 2 protocol to
encapsulate a packet while it is crossing the WAN link.
The choice of encapsulation protocols depends on the WAN
technology and the equipment.
Point-to-Point LINK
The most basic link between two networks is a point-to-point
line between them.
These lines as T1, fractional T1, T3, and T4.
T1 is a high speed communication line that can handle
digital communication and internet access for a total
bandwidth of 1.544Mbps

X.25 Link
X.25 Links
X.25 uses hop-to-hop verification of a packet
X.25 is connection oriented in that the sending party must initiate a
connection to the receiving party
This connection establishes a virtual circuit that remains throughout the
session.
It is a switched virtual circuit (SVC).
X.25 allows up to a maximum of 32 SVCs at the same time.
Because multiple users share the lines within the cloud, X.25 regulates
traffic via a credit mechanism.
