value in a digital world.
Collecting e-books may be fiscally advantageous, but the
ramifications on personnel and their responsibilities for all
of acquisition, cataloging, and access tasks have been
neglected.

Collection Development: Philosophy

The Purchase College Library evaluates, collects, and
provides access to materials that support the diverse and
changing nature of the curriculum (undergraduate and
graduate programs) and the research needs of the faculty,
students, and staff. Our goal is to provide materials that are
current, unique,and in-demand and to determine the best
format and platform for those materials to be delivered.
With a "just-in-time" rather than "just-in-case" approach to
collection development, we will do our best to meet the
needs of our primary constituents in a timely manner, and
to build a comprehensive, circulatingcollection of academic
resources in the visual/performing arts and the liberal arts
and sciences.
