Evaluation for fashion

spreads
Ben Whitehurst

Before creating my first fashion spread I had to take a wide variety of

shots of the model which I was using within this process I aimed to
apply a lot of the photography skills that I had already learnt within
the unit. These techniques varied from the rule of thirds and manual
focus and I believe these features are apparent within my pieces of
work. However we were not allowed to use digitalised skills such as
auto focus and aperture. The theme surrounding the four fashion
spreads that I was creating was based around the season of spring
and the brief indicated that each fashion spread must have relevant
Mise-en-scene regarding the theme so that the magazines was
appealing to both genders male and female, however this article
would be predominately based around the female gender.
I believe my intentions for this photograph are apparent as I aimed
for the beauty of the model to be expressed and the items of clothing
that she is wearing to be expressed as well. I believe my intentions
were portrayed successfully in this photograph as the technique of
the rule of thirds is used appropriately and immediately draws the
attention of the photograph to the models clothing . This is seen as
the models clothing is located on the horizontal and vertical lines of
the photograph (also known as the golden points). This helps the
audience as the clothing is the first thing that they will look at within
the photograph. I believe this photograph fully fulfils my intentions to
portray the beauty of the model and her clothing as the use of
relevant and appropriate photography techniques such as the rule of
thirds and manual focus are used to capture these intentions. I
believe that the photograph that I have taken is appropriate for a
teenage lifestyle magazine as the model that I have used is aged 17,
the fact that the model is this age makes the magazine more
relatable to a teenage target audience, also the items of clothing
that the model is wearing can be purchased from shops that many
teenagers shop at so it is appropriate to its target audience in that
ways also. I also believe that this photograph is appropriate to the

For the production of the four fashion spreads based around the theme of
spring that would be used in the teenage lifestyle magazine that I have
already created (Prime) the brief indicated that it was essential that the
fashion spreads that we are creating must follow the stereotypical codes
and conventions of fashion spreads by applying these codes and
conventions each of the spreads that I create must have appropriate
headlines, fonts sizes layout and by-lines. And, I believe this is apparent
within all of the fashion spreads that I have produced as they contain all
of the features, of which are listed above. The brief also indicated that the
photograph is the most important aspect of this process, and I believe
that my fashion spreads fully reflect this statement as within each of the
four spreads that I have created the main image is the focal point of the
fashion spread. For the production of my first fashion spread based around
the theme of spring I believe the combination of image and text works
appropriately to the theme I have chosen. As the spread has a distinctive
colour scheme of pink and white it enables the image to become much
more apparent on the front cover as the colours used are soft and subtle,
also the use of a soft brush script font is relevant for the first fashion
spread that I have produced as the serif typography enables the spread to
look much more professional. I believe the meaning created for this
fashion spread is very similar to the photograph that I mentioned In the
previous slide as, the spread still portrays the beauty of the model and
her clothing also the use of the warm colours and text illustrates the point
even further as the colour pink has connotations of love and warmth. I
believe this fashion spread is appropriate to its target audience of
teenagers, as teenagers especially of the female gender will be able to
relate to the photography and clothing used on the spread. The fact that
the fashion spread is relatable to them will enable them to get more

Before creating my second fashion spread I had to take a wide variety of shots of
the model which I was using within this process I aimed to apply a lot of the
photography skills that I had already learnt within the unit. These techniques

I believe my intentions for this photograph are apparent as I aimed for the
beauty of the model to be expressed and the theme of spring to be represented
positively. I believe my intentions were portrayed successfully in this photograph
as the technique of the rule of thirds is used appropriately and immediately
draws the attention of the photograph to the models clothing . This is seen as
the models clothing is located on the horizontal and vertical lines of the
photograph (also known as the golden points). I also believe my intentions to
portray the theme of spring positively is apparent within this spread as the
location used is stereotypical of the theme of spring.
This use of the rule of thirds helps the audience as the clothing is the first thing
that they will look at within the photograph and helps make their viewing
experience more aesthetically pleasing. I believe this photograph fully fulfils my
intentions to portray the beauty of the model and represent the theme of spring
appropriately as the use of relevant and appropriate photography techniques
such as the rule of thirds and manual focus are used to capture these intentions.
I believe that the photograph that I have taken is appropriate for a teenage
lifestyle magazine as the model that I have used is aged 17, the fact that the
model is this age makes the magazine more relatable to a teenage target
audience, also the items of clothing that the model is wearing can be purchased

this spread that I have produced as the serif typography enables the

that I have done in Photoshop have enhanced the aesthetically pleasing
factor of the photograph as the editing techniques have made the
photograph look much more brighter and it helps represent the theme
more positively. I believe the meaning created for this fashion spread is
very similar to the photograph that I mentioned In the previous slide as
the spread still portrays the beauty of the model and represents the
theme of spring positively. The use of the warm colours and text illustrates
the point even further as the colour pink has connotations of love and

clothing. I believe this fashion spread is appropriate to its target audience
of teenagers, as teenagers especially of the female gender will be able to

and immediately draws the attention of the photograph to the models
face. This is seen as the models face is located on the horizontal and

helps the audience as her smile will be the first thing that they will see in
the photograph, which could possibly make them happy. I believe this
photograph fully fulfils my intentions to portray the enjoyment of the
season spring and the positive representation of the models clothing as
the use of relevant and appropriate photography techniques such as the
rule of thirds and manual focus are used to capture these intentions. I
