Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the

K to 12 Basic Education Program

What is Classroom Assessment?

Is a process that is used to keep track of learners progress in relation to

learning standards in the development of 21st century skills; to promote selfreflection and personal accountability among students about their own
learning; and to provide bases for the profiling of student performance on the
learning competencies and standards of the curriculum.

2 Types of Assessment:

Formative

assessment for learning so teachers can make adjustment in their instruction, also a way
wherein students reflect. Not a basis for grading.

Summative

assessment that measures the different ways learners use and apply all relevant
knowledge, understanding, and skills. A basis for grading.

Components of Summative Assessment

Written Work (WW)

Performance Task (PT)

this includes long quizzes, and unit or long tests. This may also include essays,
written reports and other written output.

this includes skills demonstration, group presentations, oral work, multimedia

presentations and research projects. Written output may also be considered as
performance tasks.

Quarterly Assessment (QA)
