Confrontational Students

The term
Confrontational Students
refers to students who
challenge teachers faceto-face in classrooms, be
it verbally or physically.

What are the consequences?

Undermines the authority of the teacher
Classroom atmosphere becomes tensed
and unpleasant
Students become uncomfortable with the
teacher and with each other
The classroom is no longer a safe zone

Diffusing the situation

Do not lose your temper
Do not raise your voice
Do not goad the student
Do not get other students involved
Speak to the student privately
Get assistance if necessary

The ultimate goal of classroom management should not be on simple obedience, but on
having students behave appropriately because they know its the right thing to do and
because they can understand how their actions affect other people
