- Duration: 08.30-09.15 (45 minutes)

- Facilities:
* Computer equipped with sound system
* Projector
* Printer
Seat arrangement:
- Students sit in pair arranged in 5x4-row
- Teacher sits in center-front of the class

CLASSROOM 1
Students:
- Number of student: 29
- Most of the students speak English
unconfidently with lexical and
grammatical errors

CLASSROOM 1
Teacher:
- Becomes the facilitator and moderator
- Speaks English inconsistently most of the time
- Less concern about lexical and grammatical
errors either by the students or herself
- Does not put her concern about proper
pronunciation
- Unable to operate classroom facilities well

CLASSROOM 1
Materials/Activities:
- Students were divided into 8 groups on the
previous meeting
- Group presentation on Season in the World
- The presentation is conducted by two
groups, where Group 1 presents Summer
and Group 2 presents Winter
- Question and answer session
- Teachers feedback

CLASSROOM 1
Classroom Interaction
- The teacher speaks English in certain times, where she
gives general instruction related to the lesson.
- The teacher speaks Indonesian to give personal
instruction and command as well as to explain and
describe difficult English terms.
- The teacher encourages the students to speak English
during the presentation and question-answer session.
- In some cases, the teacher encourages several students
to convey their message by assisting them to translate it
from Indonesian to English.

CLASSROOM 1
- The teacher gives feedback to the students on how to
organize their presentation well.
- When doing presentation, the students explain the topic
in English with unclear voice and pronunciation.
- The presenters do not deliver the topic effectively since
they seem neither to master English nor to understand the
topic well.
- Some other students pay less attention to the presenters.
- Most of the students speak English neither naturally nor
confidently.

- Less concern about lexical, grammatical, and
pronunciation errors either by the students or
himself
- Does not utilize the classroom facilities well

CLASSROOM 2
Teaching Technique:
The teacher uses Grammar-Translation Method
Materials/Activities:
- The teacher explains grammar (past continuous tense) deductively
- The teacher invites several students to make examples related to
subject and write them on the whiteboard
- The teacher assigns the students to work on exercises in the course
book
- Again, the teacher invites several students to write their answers on
the whiteboard
- The teacher asks the class to translate the sentences written on the
whiteboard
- Teachers feedback

CLASSROOM 2
Classroom interaction:
- The teacher mostly speaks English, especially when he
gives general instruction related to the lesson
- The teacher speaks Indonesian to give personal
instruction and command as well as to explain and
describe difficult English terms
- The teacher advises the students to speak English
correctly yet fluently
- Most of the students pay attention to the teacher
- The students were given less opportunities to speak
English since the teacher dominates the classroom
interaction
- Less interaction among students

- The teacher mostly explains English text types by using


Indonesian

CLASSROOM 3
Materials/Activities:
- The teacher uses course handout instead of book
- Some of the passages are written in Indonesian
- The teacher explains about the characteristics of
English text types by using Indonesian
- After explaining the types of English text, she
assigns several students to read aloud the handout
- The teacher gives less examples of each text type
- The teacher asks several questions to the
students related to the subject
- The teacher explores the vocabularies or lexical
items in the text

CLASSROOM 3
Classroom interaction:
- The teacher mostly speaks Indonesian
during the class
- Much interaction between students and
teacher through question-answer session
- The teacher does not give much examples of
the text rather than inviting the students to
read
- Instead of analyzing the text, the teacher
prefer to emphasize the structure of the text

Feedback
Overloaded number of students and improper seat
arrangement will lead to an ineffective learning
process.
Teacher-centeredness will cause monotonous and
boring classroom.
Students interest in learning English need to be
enhanced.
Classroom facilities are not properly utilized.
English is not their tool to communicate in the
classroom.
Teachers more focus on the course book instead of
activity.
Teachers errors in pronunciation, grammar and
lexical items are very crucial
