Do Now 5 minutes

Mr. E and Mr. Campbell are creating


math problems. Mr. E decides to make 20
problems at a time, and Mr. Campbell
decides to make 15 problems at a time. If
they end up creating the same number
of problems, what is the smallest number
of problems they could have made?

Mr. E is preparing identical plates of cake


for all of the teachers at the VSC teacher
party. There are 10 pieces of chocolate
cake and 20 pieces of cheesecake. What
is the greatest number of plates Mr. E can
prepare using all of the chocolate and
cheesecake pieces?

A) As we move to the right of the number line the numbers get larger. These numbers are
called positive numbers because they are larger than 0. Notice the arrow pointing to the
right to show a positive direction. We call this number, positive 3.

B) Starting from 0, if we move further to the left of zero, do the numbers get smaller or larger?
C) These numbers are called negative because they are less than zero. Notice the arrow is
pointing to the left to show a negative direction. This number is called negative 3.
