Meekness follows poverty of spirit and

sorrow for sin

It is most natural that a person

who realizes he is spiritually poor
and who mourns over his pitiful
state should be emptied of pride
and self-centeredness.
There is no more a defiant spirit
but a willing and humble spirit and
he is ready to be led by our Lord
Jesus.

Meekness - a difficult word to define

Produced
by Simon
Siew

This word encompasses many

things but most people imagine
it to be a weakness.
It has been confused with
being indecisive, wishy-washy
and timid and who is unsure of
himself.
All these unfortunately are
not what this word mean.
On the contrary this word is a
positive word and associated
with inner strength.

Moses - the meekest man on earth

Numbers 12:3
His meekness is
demonstrated by the
fact that he would
rather have God
destroyed him than
for him to destroy his
people on account of
their sins.

The meek man does feel anger but ...

For the right reason
In the right manner

Righteous anger of the meek man

When anger is for our own
sake, it is often wrong.
When anger is for the
sake of others, it is often
right.
Though Jesus was never
angry at the insults hurled
at him, He was angry when
He saw the poor pilgrims
being exploited by money
changers in the temple.

The power of the meek man

Produced
by Simon

The meek man has the

ability to bear
reproaches and slights
with moderation and does
not embark on revenge
quickly.
He is not easily provoked
to anger but is free from
bitterness and
contentiousness, having
tranquility and stability
of spirit.
9/17

The meek man and others

The meek man sees himself

and all others as under God.
Since he is poor in spirit, he
does not think more highly of
himself that he ought to and
therefore he relates well to
others.
Most of us are too concerned
with justifying ourselves
rather than edifying others.

The problem of pride and selfcenteredness

Most people tend to assume without thinking that he is

the center of the universe or that others are simply
pawns in a chess game.
Hence he relates poorly to the 6 billion others, the
majority of whom also unfortunately labour under the
same delusion.

Ellen Whites comments on meekness

(Mount of Blessings p.15,16)

Human nature is ever

struggling for expression of
self, or pride, or love of
supremacy. But when Self is
yield to the disposal of the
Holy Spirit, then we are not
anxious to have the highest
place. We have no ambition
to crowd and elbow
ourselves into notice but we
feel our highest place is at
the feet of the Saviour.

Ellen Whites comments on meekness

(Mount of Blessings p.15,16)

It is the love of self that

destroys our peace. While
self is all alive, we stand
ready continually to guard it
from mortification and
insult; but when we are dead,
and our life is hid with Christ
in God, we shall not take
neglects or slights to heart.
We shall be deaf to reproach
and blind to scorn and insult.

Two important facts about Praus

It is the virtue of the man who

acts with gentleness when he has
in his power to act with stern
severity.
He treats that someone who has
been very mean to him with
kindness (which he does not
deserve).
This Greek word is associated
with strength rather than
weakness, fear or indifference it is the gentleness of strength.

The meek shall inherit the earth

In our world, it is the

strong and self-assertive
ones who rule the earth.
But in the world made
new, the last shall be the
first and the first shall
be the last.
Matthew 23:12 - Jesus
says that those who
humbled themselves now
will eventually be exalted.
The new earth will be
given to the meek not the
self-assertive ones.
