Videodrome is a 1983 Canadian science fiction body horror film directed by David Cronenberg. It stars James Woods as Max Renn, the manager of a small UHF television station who discovers a broadcast signal called Videodrome that causes reality-warping hallucinations and brain tumors. The signal was created by Dr. Brian O'Blivion as part of a conspiracy to use graphic and violent television programming to manipulate and selectively eliminate politically undesirable viewers. The film is known for its graphic and disturbing imagery, practical special effects with little CGI, and an unsettling electronic score by Howard Shore. Despite poor box office performance, it was critically acclaimed and won several Genie Awards in Canada.
