What this Course Covers
This unit covers the application of materials for a specific
purpose in electrotechnology. It encompasses working safely,
knowledge of materials science including classifications,
characteristics and any impact a material may have on health
and the environment, the processes of corrosion and
degradation, how particular materials are used, solving
electrotechnology problems involving of materials for a
particular application and documenting justification for such
solutions.

Materials Scientist
develop and synthesis new materials.

Materials Engineer
create new products or systems using existing materials and or
develop techniques for processing materials.

PROPERTY

Material traits expressed in terms of the measured response
to a specific imposed stimulus. Generally, property is made
of material shape and size.

RMIT University29/09/2014

6 DIFFERENT PROPERTY CLASSIFICATION OF
MATERIALS

1 Mechanical Property
2 Electrical Property
3 Thermal Property
