SEMINIFEROUS TUBULES
Spermatogonia along outer periphery, near basement membrane of tubule
Spermatocyte contains nuclei w/ chromosome (primary/secondary)
Spermatids small, round; near lumen
Sertoli Cells elongated cells; btw spermatocytes
SEMINIFEROUS TUBULES
** Not pictured is Spermatozoan = small, pointed, nuclei and flagella
STAGES OF SPERMATOGENESIS
OVARY (panoramic view)
Simple cuboidal cells
CT capsule
Large oocyte w/ 1 or 2
layers of surrounding
cuboidal follicular cells
Variably sized
follicles; regression
stage; some decaying
oocytes inside
Chamber
contains follicular
fluid

# What is this?
UTERUS - Endometrium
Endometrium = mucosa
Stratum Functionale = near
luminal surface
Thickens and sloughs away during
mensturation
Stratum Basale = near
transition to myometrium
Remains after menstruation to regrow into
new stratum functionale
Simple columnar formed
into tubular glands
PATHOLOGY WEEK 10
HYPERPLASIA ENDOMETRIAL
HYPERTROPHY OF MYOMETRIUM
HYPERPLASIA
Increase in number of cells
in an organ or tissue increased MASS/SIZE of the organ

Physiologic or Pathologic

Pathologic usually caused by excess hormones on target cell: Example
endometrial hyperplasia is due to abnormal increased unopposed estrogen

NORMAL ENDOMETRIUM
ENDOMETRIAL HYPERPLASIA
HYPERTROPHY
Increase in cell size increase organ size
Hypertrophied larger cells;

Organ has no new cells
Increased size of the cells is due to the synthesis of more structural
components of the cells.
HYPERTROPHY
Gross appearance of a normal
uterus (right) and a gravid
uterus
(removed for postpartum
bleeding) (left)
GRAVID UTERUS
(to show wall thickness)
NORMAL MYOMETRIUM
Small spindle-shaped
uterine smooth muscle
cells from a normal
uterus.
HYPERTROPHY
large plump cells from the
gravid uterus,
same magnification as
normal (in previous slide)
