Anti Virus not allowing Kies installation

Question: I am having issues with installing KIES due to my Anti Virus Software
previously installed not allowing KIES installation / communication.

Answer: in these instances you will need to contact your Anti Virus SW provider
for further support.

Download KIES from "www.samsungmobile.com" web site.

(At Support > Software & Manuals you can download "Samsung Kies". )

Ensure you go to the page that relates to your handset.

Question:
- Cable is disconnected during Firmware update.
- Update is not completed
How can I recover my Device?
Answer:
If firmware update proceed is failed, you can recover your device. See the next instruction

Recovery Process
1.Remove the battery and reinstall it. Power On your Phone

If upgrade failed in upgrade step, you can see next Pop-Up

Answer:
To install Samsung Kies in your PC, .NET frame3.5 to be installed.

Error happens in Main Stage, when I start Kies. What is the problem?

Answer:
When .Net Framework 3.5 is not installed correctly, this problem may happen.
Please reinstall .Net Framework 3.5 refer to below

Answer:
The msxsl3.msi file is not installed correctly.

When Device is connected, MTP error is displayed. How can I solve this?

Answer:
Low level version of Window Media Player version can cause this pop-up.

What is "Music Info Update"? Should I pay for it? (Is it free?)

Answer:
If you scan or add music to Contents Manager widget, you can update to the latest music information (Title,
Album art, Genre. etc).
To update music information your PC has to be connected to the Internet.
It is free, but your device has to be authenticated once. (To authenticate, just connect your device.)

Answer:
Samsung Kies supports various types of format.

- Music: *.flac, *.m4a(aac), *.mp3, *.ogg, *.wma
- Video: *.asf, *.avi, *.k3g, *.mkv, *.mp4(m4v), *.mov, *.mpg, *.rm, *.skm, *.svi, *wmv
- Image: *.bmp, *.gif, *.jpg, *.png, *.wbmp

Samsung Kies automatically convert multimedia files (video, image) into a format most suitable for your
device. You can transfer files to your phone directly without changing formats manually.

Note not all Samsung devices support these formats

How do I convert Video/Image content to put into my phone?

Answer:
Simply drag and drop (or press Export to Device icon) a music, video or photo file onto a connected device
icon and Samsung Kies will automatically convert it into a format most suitable for your device.

You can change the file format that you want using Video Convert widget as well.

Can I transfer original files directly to my phone without converting?

Answer:
Samsung Kies offers auto-transcoding basically to make your device play various file formats. According to
the device, Samsung Kies change size & format to be suitable for your connected device.

But if you want to transfer the original file, please change setting option

Why does Samsung Kies not detect my Samsung device?

Answer:

Please recheck usb cable connection. Disconnect and reconnect the handset up to 3 times.

If not successful see below

This may happen due to previous abnormal disconnection. You may need to reboot both your PC and your
device. If this cannot solve the problem, please check refer to below.

1) Kies version check
- If your Kies is not last version, update Kies version to last version refer to Update section

2) Phone Option check
- Please check USB connection option setting on device is set for KIES.

3) If there is un-recognized device, please un-install and re-install Kies

Answer:
Invalid Device error occurs when device is connected to PC via USB Mass Storage Mode.

Question:
I am using Wave(S8500). When I connect device to PC, I see error message. Driver Recover Error

Answer:

Please update Kies using Kies Live Update.

I am using Galaxy S(I9000). When I try to connect device to PC, sometimes it fails.

Answer:
When device is connected to PC continuously, Modem Port is can close after a long period of time.

Please update S/W of your device, using FUS.
FAQ : Installation Error with Win7
Question:
I am using Window7. When I install Kies ver. 1.5.1.10071_32, I receive following error.
The Installation source for this product is not available.

Answer:

Please try the update KIES function.

If update not available see below:

It is not problem of Kies, it is Windows Installer problem.
Please connect to (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187), and click Fix it icon.
Then you will download (MicrosoftFixit50123.msi) file and execute it.
The error will be fixed when you install the msi file.

FAQ : Installation Error with Win7 64Bit
Question:
I am using Window7 64Bit. When I install Kies ver. 1.5.1.10062_42_2, I receive following 1624 error.

Answer:
It is not problem of Kies, it is Windows Installer problem.
Please connect to (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187), and click Fix it icon.
Then you will download (MicrosoftFixit50123.msi) file and execute it.
The error will be fixed when you install the msi file.

FAQ : Firmware Update RAPI.dll Missing
Question:
I am using Wave(S8500). When I try to update firmware using FUS via Kies, I get error below message
The program cannot be started because RAPI.dll missing on the computer. Install the program again to
correct the problem.

Answer:
RAPI.dll missing error occurs when Windows mobile device center is not installed in your PC.
Install Windows mobile device center in your PC.
Please update Kies
1. using Kies Live Update or
2. Download Kies S/W. Both ways solve the problem.

NOTE Please ensure PC meets SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for operation

My PC OS is MS Windows XP or Vista or 7
Firmware update proceed is freezing. Upgrade step(step 4) doesnt start.
How can I go firmware update?

Answer:
Phone has no problem. Just remove the battery and reinstall it.

It is caused by Windows function - automatic searching for driver.
You should install Samsung Driver manually using Device Manager. Please follow the next instruction*

Answer
Before the user tries to upgrade firmware, please follow this process to save users personal data in their Android Phone.
We recommend Backup & Restore via Google (Note only Google contacts and calendars are possible)

Sign in with
Google account
Select Auto-Sync
or Sync now
1) Create a Google account to synchronize with Google server in Google website or in a device
(If you already have Google account, you can use it.)
2) Select Auto-Sync or Sync now
3) Check to complete backup at the server

Data Backup is completed

If the firmware is updated without backup data, all data will be removed.
If customer can not backup to server, please contact operator to solve this problem.

Sign in with
Google account
If you login to Google, the backup data in the server will automatically be restored.
Select Auto-Sync
or Sync now
Data is restored

Guide:
When the Firmware Upgrade is finished, please follow the Restore process

Caution:
- Only Contacts and Calendar which are stored at Google account will be synced with Google.
Not to lose other data like Messages, Memos, user have to Backup via Kies before doing Firmware Upgrade.
(And after finishing firmware upgrade, restore the backed- up data as well.)
- Also, contacts/calendar stored your own phone(not Google contacts/calendars) are needed to Backup/Restore via Kies
- Some data like Call log, Download contents cannot be backed up and restored.

A: Kies can support to backup SMS to PC but KIES does not support SMS restore to Phone
