Read the first sentence or paragraph -contains general info about
the text.
Then, look at the beginning of each paragraph ................................
maybe read a few words..
..in the middle .Sometimes the topic sentence
may be at the end.........................................
skip some paragraphs...............................
which are unimportant.
Read the last paragraph carefully usually contains a summary of
the main ideas

Example:

untied him from the fence, waved goodbye and
rode off into the sunset.

Summary : The cowboy left.
