she studied physics at Sorbonne, receiving
her degree in 1893.

Dont let details slow you down

Read only key words


EXAMPLE:
Read the first sentence or paragraph -contains general info about
the text.
Then, look at the beginning of each paragraph ................................
maybe read a few words..
..in the middle .Sometimes the topic sentence
may be at the end.........................................
skip some paragraphs...............................
which are unimportant.
Read the last paragraph carefully usually contains a summary of
the main ideas

2. What are they talking about?
3. Are they men or women? How can you tell?

Activity:
1. Projectiles include those items that are shot
such as a cannon shell, bullet, or rocket.

The word projectile here means:

A. things put down B. things hurt

2. The professor was a favorite among students. His
sagacity was helpful to them as they pursued their
degrees. He was known to use his experience and
common sense to help them.

Read the passage and understand it

Identify topic sentences, if not summarize the
paragraph

Remove unnecessary words

Connect the main ideas with signal words
Example:
The tall cowboy put the saddle on his horse,
untied him from the fence, waved goodbye and
rode off into the sunset.

Summary : The cowboy left.
