Introduction:
Many doctors are graduated from medical institutions including
CUCMS.
Different institutions have different ways of teaching and learning
process.
Certain qualities must be acquired by doctors nowadays as to fit and
meet the demand of medical field these days.
One of those skills i.e. soft skills which is included in affective
domain is very important in healthcare services.
Literature Reviews:
Patients satisfaction is one of the ways to assess the quality of
the medical care provided these days. Based on a survey
conducted on patients upon the doctors performance, the most
common complaints was disrespect (36%), followed by
disagreement about expectations of care (23%), inadequate
information (20%), distrust (18%), perceived unavailability (15%),
interdisciplinary miscommunication (4%), and misinformation
(4%) (Marcia M. et al, 2004)
1

Patient satisfaction is generally considered as the extent to which
the patients feel that their needs and expectations are being met
by the services provided. Patient satisfaction predicts both
compliances and utilization and may even be related to improved
health. It also contributes to the atmosphere prevailing in a
Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC). It is associated with
continuity of care, the doctor's communication skills, the degree
of his or her patient centeredness and the congruence between
intervention desired and that received by the patient (Ibrahim S
Al-Eisa et al, 2005)
2

Communication between doctors and patients is attracting an
increasing amount of attention within health care studies (Ong et al,
1995)
3

Communication, attention, and sensitivity to cost are important to
patients but tend not to be highly characteristic of their physicians
(DiMatteo, 1998)
4

It is proposed that Blooms Taxonomies generally align with the
Academys mission; that is, the cognitive domain aligns with
educating, the affective domain aligns with inspiring, and the
psychomotor domain aligns with training (Joseph Hanus et al, 2008)
5

It is difficult to achieve even the highest levels in the cognitive
domain if we dont teach and develop those complementary skills in
the affective domain (Griffith et al, 2006)
6

Performance builds upon competence but also encompasses other
influences on ones eventual performance, including system related
influences (government programmes and initiatives, patients
expectation, guidelines, etc.) and individual related influences
(physical and mental health, relationship with others including
peers, other professions, and family) (S J Carr, 2004)
7

Summary of Literature Review:
Soft skills (communication skills, empathy, courtesy), which are
taught and implemented in the affective domain, are very much
needed in the medical and healthcare services these days.

So, a big question arises
Is there any difference between the performance
of CUCMS housemen and the performance of
housemen from other private medical schools?

Research Hypothesis:
Null hypothesis: There is no difference between performance of
CUCMS graduates and that of other medical schools graduates.

Alternative Hypothesis: CUCMS housemen have better
performance compared to other medical school graduates.
Research Objective:
The main objective of this study is to determine any difference in
performance level of HOs graduating from CUCMS and other
medical schools. We would also like to identify other aspects
which patients and supervisors expect to be portrayed by health
professionals
