OnthechangingnatureofCSR
Earlier it was mostly giants that were in some way affecting communities
that undertook CSR as a balancing act. But now, 95% of companies in
IndiahaveaCSRprogramthattoowithoutanyprescribedformulanorany
mandateandifsothenonlyforprivate.
OntheemergingCSRpolicy
The Department of Public Enterprises is in the final stages of preparing
guidelines for Central Public Sector enterprises. It proposes a contribution
from 0.5% to 5%. Another proposal by Salman Khrushid, the former
CorporateAffairsMinister,hasbeenforaCSRcreditsystem.
Ontheroleofgovernment
ItisagoodsignthatPrimeMinisterManmohanSinghandhiscabinet,with
a Corporate Affairs team, are now engaging businesses in to taking
responsibility by issuing CSR voluntary guidelines onwards 2009 to
encourage businesses to formulate CSR policies and plan CSR initiatives
strategically.
