- Non infective - infective.
- Found in luman - it is found in tissue of
of s.intestine. Liver,lung,skin,& brain.
Function of chromatiod bar &
glycogen vacuole. ( bhushan)

• Chromatiod bar r so called because they

stain with haematoxylin like chromatin.
They contain RNA, DNA, & phosphates.
As the cyst mature the glycogen vacuole &
chromatiod bar r disappears. Both r stores
allergic scores .

Difficulties

• Basic life cycle:

Cyst Small trophozoite Cyst
• This protozoa live in of human
body.
• Infective stage:
• Pathogenic stage:
• Modes of infection:
Pathogenesis and Symptom

• Intestinal Amoebiasis
• Extra-Intestinal Amoebiasis
Intestinal Amoebiasis
Pathogenesis: In colon, ulcer, bleeding,
inflammation, and perforation
Manifestation
• Acute stage: diarrhea, dysentery, feces
with pus and blood, like chocolate in
color, abdominal pain, flatulence,
anorexia, weight loss,etc.
• Chronic stage: diarrhea, dysentery, feces
thicker than in acute stage, anorexia,
weight loss,etc.
Extra- Intestinal moebiasis
1. Hepatic abscess
hepatic pain, high fever, enlarged liver,
emaciation, jaundice, etc. The pus looks
like chocolate in color.
2. Pulmonary abscess:
cough, fever, chest pain, sputum with
blood and pus, like chocolate in color, etc.
3. Cerebral abscess
headache, vomiting, nausea, fever, like
bacterial abscess of brain in
manifestations, usually coexisting with
hepatic amoebiasis.
4. Cutaneous ulcer
ulcer of cutaneous tissue, usually found in
the skin near the anus.
Diagnosis
Epidemiology

1. Distribution
• All over the world, especially in tropic
and sub-tropic area.
• In China, infection incidence of
population nears to 1%
2. Factors for endemic
• Sources of infection: carriers and the
patients without diarrhea symptom
• A large amount of cysts passed in feces of
infected people every day
• Strong resistance against environmental
factors
• Water and food contamination with cysts
• Fly and other insects transmit the cysts
• Poor conditions of sanitation and ill
personal habits
Treatment and prevention
1. Treat the patients and carriers
• Metronidazole
• Paromomycin and Indoquinofonum
2. Manage the feces
3. Prevent the feces pollute the water sources
and food
4. Health examination for the food handlers
5. Form good hygienic habits
Entamoeba coli

The most common amoeba found in

human body, but not a pathogenic one.
What is medical importance of this
protozoa is its confusion with E. histolytica.
