This plants stretches 2 km from east to west and 1.4 km from north to south and spans 150 hectares. It converts 7 000 tons of grains each day and markets more than 700 products. Nearly 2 800 employees work in Lestrem Europes main corn starch plant and their latest state of the art application laboratories.
Since it w as founded in 1933, the Roquette Group, a French family-ow ned company has managed to become one the top 5 starch producers in the w orld. Each year, it converts more than 6 million tons of renew able agricultural raw materials (corn, w heat, potatoes and peas) into starches and derivates. Today, more than 700 products meet the need of 5 major industrial sectors : human nutrition, animal feed, paper/corrugated cardboard, chemicals/bioindustry. Roquette currently employs 6 400 people around the w orld w ith more than 2/3 of them in Europe, 1 400 in Asia and 600 in North America. Ever since it w as founded, the Roquette Group has based its development on an industrial strategy that prioritizes the long term, a constant search for innovation and respect for the environnement. Roquette took an another step forw ard by indentifying tw o strategic areas for development : Plant-based Chemistry and Health Nutrition. Innovation, research an development are in the Roquette Group'genes. Since its very beginnings, it has been a forerunner in developing new products and new applications to respond to changes in the market. More than 50 million euros are devoted to research, innovation and development and more than 300 researchers are w orking in laboratories and pilot units. Super BioIndustrials in FRANCE ARKEMA @Serquigny, Normandy 65 years of cutting edge innovation dedicated to plant-based high performance polymers. Arkema has the advantage of longstanding experience in the use of plant-based raw materials, particularly castor oil chemistry, which produces a family of high- value-added performance products, including Rilsan or Pebax Rnew , a top-of-the-range polyamide designed for technical applications The CERDATO is one of the 7 research and development centers of Arkema in the w orld. Located in Serquigny in Normandy (27), approximately 100 miles West of Paris, Cerdato takes an active part in Arkema's innovation together w ith European, American and Asian partners. Listening to markets like sport, photovoltaic, eyew ear, cosmetic, automotive, off-shore oil production or packaging, the Cerdato tailors innovative performance products more resilient, durable and light, often for metal or glass replacement. A large share of its activity is allocated to technical support for Arkema customers Super BioIndustrials in FRANCE ARD @Bazancourt-Pomacle, Riems two realities co-exist and interact on a single site: an industrial complex, which can be defined as an industrial ecosystem (integration & synergies) BRI (Bioraffinerie Recherches & Innovations), an innovation platform that is organized around ARD (AgroIndustrie Recherches & Dveloppements), which is a R&D center owned by the cooperatives. Presently, BRI forms the technological heart of the competitiveness cluster IAR (Industries & Agroressources) This complex represents an outstanding example of integrated biorefinery, which has been developed over a long period of time, starting with the creation of a sugar beet refinery in the early 50s. The strong and sustained commitment of local farmers and their cooperatives is a key factor behind todays biorefinery. The main purpose , the underlying dynamic of the current setup and to convey the fact that biorefining in Bazancourt- Pomacle is no longer a concept, but a hard, industrial reality Super BioIndustrials in FRANCE ARDs Key Focus is to further develop a Bio-Industrial Ecology to fully utilize every element of the Renewable Resource. Enhancement of Biotechnology Intelligence and Experience important for a Green Sustainable Future. Super BioIndustrials in FRANCE Sofiprotol-Novance @Compigne: this oilseed biorefinery brings together the group's subsidiaries specialised in Oilseed crushing (Saipol), Biodiesel and Glycerin production (Diester Industrie) and Oleochemical R&D and Production (Novance and Oleon). This biorefinery, on a site of 7 hectares, brings together the group's subsidiaries specialised in oilseed processing, from rapeseed to end-users industrial products: - Saipol is crushing rapeseed to produce vegetable oil and meal, - Diester Industrie is producing biodiesel and its coproduct glycerin, - Novance and Oleon are transforming oils, fats and glycerin into various olechemical products. The site has developed bio-lubricants, green polyols, coatings and other innovative products based on renew able raw materials.
A project is also underway for the development of a second generation biodiesel demonstration unit within the BioTfueL program. The site visit shows the variety of products made from vegetable oils. BioIndustry in FRANCE: Sofiprotol Bio-based Industry has been an economic model rooted in a sustainable base of agricultural shareholders in France for more than 100 years. The leading player in the French vegetable oil and protein industry, Sofiprotol promotes the activities of researching, marketing, processing, and adding value to oilseed and protein crop productions, while focusing on fairness and solidarity between companies. Sofiprotol was formed in 1983 at the initiative of the French federation of oilseed and protein crop producers : the Fop, the ONIDOL and UNIP. Originally a financial establishment for the French vegetable oil and protein subsidiary, Prola, Sofiprotols investments and acquisitions have made it a major agri-food group in France today.
Through its financial commitment, Sofiprotol supports development and innovation across all aspects of the industry Innovation lies at the heart of Sofiprotols industrial strategy. It provides new markets for products from renewable sustainable sources. Sofiprotol Organization: Each divisions investments are handled by a central company : Soprol, for the Oilseed Division, Sofial, for the Animal Division. Oilseed Division: Saipol : oil and oilseed cake production, and oil refining. Lesieur : edible oils and dressings. Diester Industrie : renewable energy and renewable chemistry. Diester Industrie International : renewable energy in Europe (outside France). Oleon et Novance : renewable chemistry. Animal Division: The Glon Group Sanders brings together approximately 50 small and medium-sized businesses and structures them around 2 complementary businesses : animal health and nutrition, adding value to animal production for human nutrition.
