So Whats Next
A shakeup in the business model?
This year two mainstream high-end devices
are being offered unlocked to the general
public
NexusOne
Apple iPAD
Many people are watching the adoption rate
of these devices to determine if the
unsubsidized phone model can work for
manufacturers as well as carriers.

What will the future hold?
Customer Devices will move into two
categories
Converged Devices that will continue to try
and do all things (and maybe even voice!)
Specialized devices that take advantage of
the IP Nature of the 4G networks to allow new
functionality and ease of use

Specialized Devices
These devices really come in two versions
Devices designed from the ground up to
perform unique functions based upon a
mobile wireless technology
iPAD
Netbooks
Existing Devices Adding a 4G chipset adds
new functionality
Security Cameras
ATM Machines
Remote Monitoring Capabilities

Broadband Access Devices
These are designed to be highly mobile
and support high data rates
One Russian WiMAX operator reported in
March that handsets averaged about
1Gb/month while Notebooks average
15Gb/Month
These devices will support 4G and 3G
technologies for additional roaming capability
These Devices may be subsidized from the
carrier or sold directly from the vendor (i.e.
Dell)
AirCards also fall into this category

Existing Devices with wireless capability
Cannon and Nikon have both positioned
themselves to be able to add 4G
capabilities directly to their cameras
Local Services may become an additional
source of revenue and stickiness
Deer Camera
Security Camera

What does the future hold?
Roaming will be an absolutely critical
part of any future deployments
Not necessarily for revenue, but
for the customer experience
The slow movement towards unlocked
devices and more available units will
continue
Devices will continue to be multi-band and
multi-mode capable
Voice will continue to be a less important
service across the wireless network

14
What does the future hold?
Continued pricing pressure to offer lower
and lower rates while usage continues to
escalate
Companies must continue to position
themselves for an ultra completive
environment
Smaller Companies can leverage their
local advantage and compete against ATT
and Verizon in this new world, but they
must be aggressive and decisive in their
actions
