INTRODUCTION
Following the screening of the Lumire moving
pictures in London (1895) cinema became a
sensation across Europe and by July 1896 the
Lumire films had been in show in Mumbai
.
The first
short films in India were directed by Hiralal Sen,
starting with The Flower of Persia (1898).
The provision of 100% foreign direct investment has
made the Indian film market attractive for foreign
enterprises such as 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures,
Walt Disney Pictures and Warner Bros. Indian
enterprises such as , dharma production,red chilly
production, and Sun Network's sun pictures.
Indian cinema covers Bengali cinema, Bhojpuri
cinema ,Gujarati cinema, Hindi cinema, Oriya
cinema, Punjabi cinema, Sindhi Cinema, Tamil
cinema, Telugu cinema etc
History
The first full-length motion picture in India was
produced by Dadasaheb Phalke was Raja
Harishchandra (1913), a silent film in Marathi.
Ardeshir Irani released Alam Ara which was the
first Indian talking film in 1931.
the period from the late 1940s to the 1960s are
regarded by film historians as the 'Golden Age' of
Indian cinema.
India is the world's largest producer of films. In
2009, India produced a total of 2961 films.

First Color Film Made in India-Kisan Kanya was a
1937 Hindi feature color film .
Film with Most Number of Songs-Indra Sabha with
71 songs is the film with most number of songs.
First Indian to Get an Oscar -Bhanu Athaiya was

Longest Hindi Film Song-The song Ab Tumhare
Hawale Watan Saathiyon in the film by the same
name is the longest Hindi film song. The length of
