ABBs 800F control system is divided into an operator level and a process level.

Process Level:
At the process level, a Freelance 800F system can consist of several process stations that are connected with I/O units. You have the option of running these process stations either redundantly (CPU redundancy, fieldbus module redundancy) or without redundancy.

Operator Level:
The operator level contains the functions for operation and observation, archives and logs, trends and alarms. Open-loop and closedloop control functions are processed in the controllers.

The 800F has a modular structure. The CPU is designed as a backplane to which various modules Power supply units, Ethernet or Fieldbus modules

OPERATING STATION (OS1-OS4)

The DCS system uses the Freelance 800F DigiVis for operator stations. Application running under >>>>the Microsoft Windows operating system. DigiVis supports dual-monitor operation, two monitors can be used on a single PC)

OPC (OPEN PROCESS CONTROL).

Freelance 800F provides an OPC gateway (server), which allows OPC clients to access data and alarm from the Freelance process stations. The OPC server also allows access to the parameters of PROFIBUS and HART devices. The DigiVis operator station has a built-in OPC client which permits to access data from external OPC servers.

EWS ENGG. WORK STATION

The Control Builder F engineering station is used to configure and commission the system.

Usually, portable equipment such as laptops, which allow configuration both in the office and on site, is used.
The operator level PCs can also be used as engineering station.

PRINTERS
There are 02 printers (01 laser B/W printer and 01 color printer) available in Control Room. All three printers are connected on a redundant Ethernet link, so failure of either Ethernet switch or link will not affect the availability of printers.

NETWORK/ SWITCHES
The Ethernet network connects the OS (1-4),

OPC Server or EWS with the redundant controllers through the redundant Ethernet switches.
The media is UTP or fiber-optic Ethernet running at 10/ 100Mbps, using the TCP/ IP protocol. The hardware consists of two redundant Ethernet switches with optional fiber-optic outputs for longer distances, such as to the central control.

CONTROLLER (Redundant)
A Freelance 800F system can consist of between one and several rack based process stations or AC 800F field controllers that can be extended with I/O units. The AC 800F controller distributes process and diagnostic data from four fieldbus gateways. Owing to its compact and sturdy design, the AC 800F is suitable both for installation in the control room and for use in junction boxes directly in the field.

Controller redundancy can be achieved by installing two AC 800F.

To ensure quick and smooth takeover by the secondary AC 800F in case the AC 800F fails, primary

A dedicated redundancy communications link through the second Ethernet module makes sure that both AC 800F are always synchronized.
All inputs and outputs are designed to support redundant operation.

RLM (REDUNDANCY LINK MODULE)

Designing fieldbus lines to be redundant considerably increases the availability of plants or plant components. Module RLM01 provides redundant communication channels for the PROFIBUS protocol. It transforms a PROFIBUS line into two redundant lines or, conversely, combines two redundant lines to form a single line, as required. This also makes it possible for field devices that are fitted with just one PROFIBUS interface to be integrated into redundant lines.

FCI (FIELD COMMUNICATION INTERFACE)

The AC 800F uses the fieldbus modules to collect and process real-time and diagnostic data. Up to four fieldbus modules can be mounted into one AC 800F.

The fieldbus modules have the following tasks and characteristics:

Electrical isolation between the process and system

Status LEDs for the module status Independent fault detection and fault signaling

Connection of the fieldbus lines
