ADJUST INDIRECT FIRE CALL FOR FIRE

ELEMENTS IN CALL FOR FIRE


There are six elements in the Call For Fire, they are given in three transmissions. (1) Observer Identification (2) Warning Order (3) Target Location (4) Target Description (5) Method of Engagement (6) Method of Fire and Control

OBSERVER IDENTIFICATION
First Element:
(First Transmission)

This lets the FDC know whos calling


Clears the net for your fire mission

WARNING ORDER
Second Element:
(First Transmission)

Preliminary notice of action to follow Consist of the following: Type of mission

Identifies type of method of target location

Grid: Given as a six or eight digit grid FO must give a direction before making corrections

TARGET DESCRIPTION
Fourth Element:

What the target is- troops, vehicles, etc. What target is doing- digging in, re-fueling Number of elements in the target Degree of protection- in open, bunkers with overhead cover Target size and shapecircular, rectangular, linear.

METHOD OF ENGAGEMENT

FO Needs to Identify: Danger Close- Included when


the projected impact is within 400 meters of friendly troops for mortars. Mark Used to orient the FO to his zone of observation, or to indicate targets to ground troops, aircraft, or fire support.

Method Of Fire:
FDC will decide method of fire unless otherwise specified. Standard method is normally conducted with one gun. Usually the center gun is used.

MESSAGE TO OBSERVER (MTO)


In short, its the information given to you from the firing unit that minimally includes:

MTO may also include the following:

SAMPLE OF MTO
FDC: FO this is FDC, 81mms to fire 1 round HE in adjust. FO: FDC this is FO, 81mms firing 1 round HE in adjust.

REPORT UPON FIRING


SHOT- The firing unit will transmit Shot after they have shot a round. SPLASH- The firing unit will transmit Splash normally 3-5 seconds before your round hits.

REPORT CORRECTIONS
FO MAKES CORRECTIONS AS STATED: FO transmits right 50 meters, drop 100 meters over FDC repeats corrections FDC reports firing again FO transmits corrections or may request fire for effect!

END OF MISSION
Refinement- Small corrections. This will only be accepted by FDC if mission had priority and no other missions have taken over priorty. Record as Target End of Mission- Given last, once given the mission is considered over Surveillance-Neutralized, suppressed, destroyed
