The title that we gave our teaser trailer, Pathogen was decided by including It in a list of potential titles and

researching which one our target audience liked the most. The reason behind us doing this is that, after choosing a title for our A/S work too late, it ended up being too clich so we didnt want that happening for a second time; we decided to choose a title early since we needed to create the title and choose the font & colours so that we could add it to our products. The font used for the title was creating using the online software program, iPiccy, and using the font Typewriter.

One of the first locations and scenes that we decided on was the news reporter, requiring a studio, since, in most disaster movies/zombie movies, there is a news report about the incident somewhere in the film (also in the trailer) so we decided that it was a necessary shot to make.

As you can see while watching our teaser trailer, one of the main locations that we used was the part. This is because it provides the perfect settings to include large shots of the zombies and the environment to film the survivors fighting zombies. After deciding that we needed to set the trailer in a busy area, we decided that we needed to film a few shots in London. Because of how hard the conditions are to film police cars and busy crowds in London, we had no choice but to find some fan footage on YouTube.

We aimed to include certain props in our teaser trailer that would connote the theme of thriller so we used tools like shovels and rakes to connote the kind of weapons that average survivors would normally find since they wont ordinarily own any high-tech equipment, nor have known about the disaster prior to it happening. We have also followed the conventions of what kind of costumes the characters would wear in a disaster time so we made all of the people playing the survivors, wear practical clothing.

Some other props that we used in creating our trailer include the science equipment that would be used by the scientist to create the cure. We used different food colouring and boiled it to get the effect that something is being created.

Our group used a variety of shots to film our teaser trailer, such as close-ups and low angles to capture each scene differently, depending on what we wanted the audience to see and how they would feel while watching it. For example, the low angle on the person below the table connotes that, just like the character, we dont know who the other figures are that are walking around and the shot focuses on the fact that the character is hiding from something.

We learnt that, throughout the production, a trailer needs 3 different stages of story that combines to create a successful trailer, the introduction of the characters, the fast-paced action, and the climax. All of these should combine other aspects such as enigma codes so that people would feel like they want to see more of the story, otherwise the audience will have only have watched a short story rather than a trailer.

The captions used in our trailer give the audience something to think about when watching the trailer, the enigma codes causing the audience to want to watch the full film. For example, DO YOU KNOW WHAT TERROR IS?, followed by YOURE ABOUT TO, is used to get the audience into looking at each caption and seeing the difference and dramatic, fastpaced action after the second caption since it grabs the audiences attention, causing them to, at least, concentrate on the following shot more.

Following the conventions of a trailer, we added the title of our film, the date of its release and a website that would normally be used so that, when people are interested in finding out more about the film, they can find information about it. We also made sure that for, at least the title, that the font and colour is the same that we have used throughout our different forms of media.

Through the mise-en-scene and locations, we have portrayed how out teaser trailer links to the thriller genre. For example, thriller movies will usually include some props such as weapons. Some of the props that we have used link to the thriller genre as they are used for the purpose for the characters to survive and, since thrillers will usually include the story of one or more characters overcoming a problem to save the lives of themselves or others, we have suggested this genre since our trailer includes scenes of the characters having to defend themselves. Another suggestion of the thriller genre is our attention to the costumes and makeup of the characters. For example, all of the zombies and the characters have some kind of injury; we also used fake blood to connote the genre since the thriller genre is present in films that have a dark presence.

We had a few different characters to establish in the beginning of the trailer so we had to suggest their role in the movie e.g. protagonist and antagonist. We didnt feel like we needed to portray their personalities too much but we established that, as you can see, the character in the screen shot to the left is an antagonist since the audience is unable to see his face, which portrays a mystery character that may be up to no good.

We used a few didnt techniques to show the production companies that took part in the making of the trailer. Although the DNA shot that is used in the film was not created by us, we used the idea of adding some effects to the title of the trailer. As our final result, we managed to add, using the Adobe Premier Pro CS6 software, an effect of something eating the title (the paint splatter tool) as a transition shot at the end of the trailer. We thought that this was the most appropriate since it links back to the theme of our trailer and, after researching other teaser trailers, they too add effects to their titles and captions based on the theme of the movie. The filler effect that we added at the end of the trailer changes the shot a big to change the perception of the shot to an even sinister one which intensifies the end of the trailer.

The original length of a teaser trailer should have been 1 minute. Although we did know this, the shots that we used were all necessary in the build up, story and other functions in the trailer so, after cutting is down as much as we could, the end result of the trailer came to 1:30.

Song: A Perfect Day Lou Reed (Cover by Twin Shadow)

Intentions of the soundtrack that we used was intended to be deliberate juxtaposition to what was going on in the trailer. For example, the irony that is used adds a really eerie effect to the footage that we have; the track was also meant to give off an unnaturally cheerful and sad vibe from the song with the rest of the trailer. We also timed a part of the song to co-inside with the end of the trailer, the line just keep me hanging on connotes the survivors need to stick with what they are doing and live through the event to survive.

As you can see, our magazine cover doesnt necessarily use the correct conventions of a magazine cover that you might ordinarily see on a Sight & Sound cover. This is because we took the basis of our final design of the cover from an already existing Special Edition cover that focused on the film Public Enemies with the theme of that magazine being a Gangsters Special. On the basis of this idea we decide to create a cover that was similar to the conventions of this cover, using the main cover line of the Zombie Special. The reason for our decision to do this was that we wanted a cover with a full body shot that showcased the conventions of our trailer more, showing the unique nature of a film appearing as a rare, special edition of this magazine. In the normal blend of magazine covers that are produced for Sight & Sound, you can see that they are strictly consistent with their fonts and styles. However, on the special edition cover that we were basing our cover on, they did not stay with their usual rule of fonts and designs and, because of this, we were too able to break the normal rules that they would have set to showcase our magazine in the manner that we had preferred.

Our magazine cover doesnt follow the original conventions of a Sight & Sound cover but we had based the conventions of our magazine on a special edition cover for Sight & Sound. As you can be, the masthead, date and barcode that is usually present in all Sight & Sound covers is used in our cover. This provided the basis for our colour scheme of yellow/orange and whites since it matches with the colour code of the masthead while still matching with the colours that we wanted to use to portray our film campaign. Although we didnt stick to the conventions of a regular Sight & Sound cover and, instead used a special edition cover, the design that we came up with fits the conventions of a typical magazine cover. For example, we have used the rule of thirds to layout our main image, which is also fit to portray the thriller genre, and we have also included the main and normal cover lines that are an important part of a magazine cover. As I have already mentioned, we have also included the masthead, date and Main barcode of the magazine as well.

Main Image

One of the main focuses that we had while creating the magazine cover was the attention to detail on the main image where we specifically wanted to portray the horror thriller genre that we focused on in the trailer. For example, the dark shadows on the characters face and the practical form of clothing all went towards the typical mise en scene that you would find in a thriller movie. We also used a plain background that, although sinister looking, wouldnt draw the attention from the main character. To expand on this, we burred parts of the image and de-saturated it so that the background looked more eerie and part of the thriller genre.

Staring Actors Revie ws

As you can see, the conventions of a typical teaser poster are shown on our groups teaser poster. The Release date is unknown so it is written as Coming Soon with a link to a website below where people, who are interested, would be able to find out more information about the film. The image appeals to the target audience because the colours and the tone of the image connote the thriller genre. The effects of the image bring out a sharper image than it was when originally taken, for example, the image looked smoother when it was taken. This rustic effect connotes the thriller genre since it connotes something that is worn and sinister, the complete opposite to if the image what filled with bright colours.

As you can see, there are several aspects in the image and background of the teaser poster that connote thriller. These examples, the use of (fake) blood and he dark, eerie, background add to the fact that this is a horror-thriller styled film.
