6-3 Multiplying Fractions

For fractions a/b and c/d, where b <> 0 and d<> 0, a/b* c/d = ac/bd

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 1 Solve x = 3/2 * 7/9

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 1 Solve x = 3/2 * 7/9 = 3/ 2 * 7/9

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 1 Solve x = 3/2 * 7/9 = 3/ 2 * 7/9 = 3*7/2*9

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 1 Solve x = 3/2 * 7/9 = 3/ 2 * 7/9 = 3*7/2*9 = 21/18 or 11/6

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 1 Solve x = 3/2 * 7/9 = 3/ 2 * 7/9 = 3*7/2*9 = 21/18 or 11/6

If the fractions have common factors in the numerators and denominators, simplify before you multiply.

Example 2 Solve z = 11/16 * 4/7

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 2 Solve z = 11/16 * 4/7 = 11/16 * 4/7

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 2 Solve z = 11/16 * 4/7 = 11/16 * 4/7 = 11*4/16*7

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 2 Solve z = 11/16 * 4/7 = 11/16 * 4/7 = 11*4/16*7

The GCF of 4 and 16 is 4. Divide 4 and 16 by 4.

6-3 Multiplying Fractions

Example 2 Solve z = 11/16 * 4/7 = 11/16 * 4/7 The GCF of 4 and 16 is 4. Divide 4 and 16 by 4. = 11*4/16*7 = 11*1/4*7 or 11/28
