poverty is hunger poverty is lack of shelter poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read poverty is leaving a child to a illness bought about by a uncertain water poverty is lack of representation and freedom poverty is not having a job fear for the future, living one day at a time

Facts and figures


India suffers a lot from poverty which means that many people do not have enough money. 27.5% of the population was living below the poverty line in 2004-05. monthly per capita consumption expenditure was below Rs 356.35 for rural areas and Rs 538.60 for urban areas. 1 out of every 4 Indians earn than (.50$) per day. Nearly 75% of the poor are from the rural areas. Most of them are daily wagers and landless laboures. National commission for enterprises in the unorganized sector (NCEUS) published a report in 2007. this report states that,77% of the Indians(nearly 836 million), lived on Rs less than Rs 20 per day. Most of them have no job security. They lived in abject poverty.

Poverty line
Poverty line is an economic benchmark used by the government of India to indicate economic disadvantage and to identify individual and household in need for the government assistance and aid. The poverty line is higher in developed countries then in developing countries. The international poverty line has been in the past have been roughly 1$ per day. In 2008 the world bank have been came out with a revised figure whish is 1.25$ per day. Determining the poverty line is usually done by the finding of the total cost of the essential resources that an average human consumes in a year.

Absolute and relative poverty


Absolute Poverty is when people do not have enough money to meet the basic threshold that is needed for survival like food shelter clothing medical care . People fall below this line and do not have enough money to buy food. Relative poverty is when someone standard of living or finances are low when compared to that of the rest of their society. In short Absolute Poverty is when people do not have enough money to meet the basic threshold that is needed for survival. People fall below this line and do not have enough money to buy food.
