Plot - Retribution

Kyle Whitton Mitchell Hall Jonathan Riley Georgia Barnes

Plotline

Our plot revolves around the routine of what first seems an average person at first with a simple daily routine such as coming off the train, reading the paper, and living in a middle class house. He is revealed to have a dark side when we are shown the inside of his house with a wide list of his 'targets' who are people who have caused in trouble in his past with vocal flash backs. Pictures of random people with X's across their face are shown in a very quick camera pan until eventually it stops on a picture with no X around it at all where the main character stops and circles the person and begins laughing when the opening ends.

Plotline

In terms of plot line, do you believe there's anything that you feel needs to be changed in order to make this seem more of a thriller movie? Or does the opening sequence communicate its genre well enough? An example of the thriller genre is The Purge which we studied in class. Do you like the plotline ? Why ? Why not? Do you like the thriller genre (what about it do you like)? Do you feel our film fits the conventions of the thriller genre?

Location / Props / Costume

The train scenes will be filmed in both Becontree and Heathway station. The house & room scenes will be filmed in Jonathan's house. The character will have a newspaper which will feature a custom made article on a man found dead which will be someone who our character killed Scissors to cut the articles Pen Just a suit for costume

Do you feel our location will be effective? Is there anything we should be careful about when using these locations? Do you thing our costume choice portrays our intentions for our character?

Question 1

Our character doesn'tt have their full identity revealed until the end of the scene where we only see the bottom half of his face, do you feel this is effective and why? What does the mystery of the characters identity make you feel and think?

Question 2

In terms of sound, do you feel like any diegetic sound should be used? The only types of sound we have now are the screams of the characters previous victims in a vocal flashback and the sound of the train as well as the laughter. The screams are diegetic as they will be heard in the characters head. Non-diegetic sound will be music playing in order to build suspense (diegetic = sound characters can hear, non-diegetic = sound characters cant hear) Do you think we need any more sound in our scene in order to make it better or is it okay as it is ?

Question 3

We describe the character in the start as a perfectly normal person and then immediately contrast it with a psychotic type of personality, do you feel this will be effective? Would you rather a normal appearance throughout, or a psychotic appearance throughout?

Theories we use
We have included theories such as Female gaze content satisfying female attractions (the characters wealth is shown by his suit) Binary Opposites two complete opposite things, characters, features. (the characters two different personalities) Vladdmir Propps theory linking characters with fairy tale characters such as a hero. (the character will be shown as a false hero and a villain) Enigma - Having a mystery within a scene (the story behind the supposed murder and the characters identity Equilibrium a sense of peace interupted with chaos and then calmness is restored (Peaceful train chaotic scene in room calm at the end) Is there any other theories we could include in our movie opening ?

Overall

Would you watch our movie if we made the whole thing? Do you think it will be successful? Any last notes?
