THE CORRELATION BETWEEN AIR POLLUTION AND OUT PATIENT VISITS FOR NON SPESIFIC CONJUNGTIVITIS

Rayi Vialita 030.09.196

Air Pollution
-Air is 99.9% nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor and inert gases
-Air pollution occurs when the air contains gases, dust, fumes or odour in harmful amounts .

Type of pollution is :
the release of noxious gases Such a sulfur dioxide

Carbon monoxide
Nitrogen oxides Chemical vapors Particulate Matter (PM)

Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is an inflammation or infection of the

conjunctiva, the thin transparent layer of tissue that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye.
Conjunctivitis, often called pink eye

Conjunctivitis symptoms are :

A gritty feeling in one or both eyes Itching or burning sensation in one or both eyes Discharge coming from one or both eyes Swollen eyelids Pink discoloration to the whites of one both eyes Increased sensitivity to light

The cause of conjunctivitis are

Allergic Infectious can be caused by (bacterial, Viral) Chemical (irritants like air pollution, chlorine in swimming

pools, and exposure to noxious chemicals)

Correlation
Data from ophthalmologic outpatient visits between 2007 and 2009 were obtained from the National Health Insurance Database of Taiwan.
Changes in the lacrimal pH, caused by the acidification of tears in an atmosphere with a high-oxidant power (NO2, SO2), can irritate the surface of the eye and cause conjunctivitis. Eyes look red, itchy, feels like there is a foreign object

In this study, only a PM with a larger diameter (PM10) have a significant impact on the number of outpatient visits. This might be due to PM coarse, causing strong foreign body sensation causes red irritated eyes and may cause conjunctivitis, while PM smooth easily cleaned from the surface of the eye with tears, without inducing ocular discomfort.

Conclusion
Based on research in Taiwan there is a correlation between air

pollution and non-specific conjunctivitis. air pollutants such as SO2, NO2, O3 and PM10 increase the likelihood of nonspecific conjunctivitis make the eyes easily irritated and exposed to gas particles contained in air pollution makes ambulatory patients do to handle the situation.

FIRES FOREST
Fires forest can cause epenses smoke Smoke is a

suspension of fine solid particles in a air and Smoke from wood and other organic matter consisting of particles-fine particles of carbon This material reduces the quality of the air because they interfere with breathing and vision because when forest fires, causing expenses such as CO2 emissions, NO2, SO2, O3 and CH4 particles-particles that make the eyes become drycan irritate the surface of the eye and cause conjunctivitis Eyes look red, itchy, feels like there is a foreign object .
