INDUSTRIAL HYDRAULICS
servo valve contains an electric "torque motor" that is capable of generating a force in relation to the magnitude and polarity of the signal driving it. There are single stage and two stage (or pilot operated) servo valves.

INDUSTRIAL HYDRAULICS
A single stage servo valve controls the spool position directly by pushing or pulling it in relation to he magnitude and polarity of the signal to the torque motor. Two stage servo valves control the position of the main spool by means of pilot pressure and a mechanical feedback spring. Two stage valves will have a pilot screen to prevent contamination from plugging the pilot stage nozzles. If the servo valve has stopped working this screen can usually be removed and

servo valves also have a mechanical "null" adjustment. This adjustment is made with no signal to the valve and usually is set so the actuator does not move. This would prevent movement in the event of a control signal failure. When "nulling" a single rod cylinder the pressures will be different on the cap and rod side of the cylinder to achieve a force balance with the piston and annular areas.

INDUSTRIAL HYDRAULICS
Servo describes the function where a small input (input signal) causes a large output (output signal). Control means that a nominal value is given and actual value results from a fixed setting at the unit. The actual value is not monitored and therefore not corrected. With Regulation a nominal value is given. The actual resulting value is measured continuously. If the actual value differs from the nominal value, a signal is formed from the difference. This difference value is equated to the nominal value. The purpose of the regulation is therefore to
