He believes in using different camera skills and equipment to get a photograph at its best. This is so he doesnt have to use a lot of manipulation afterwards. Burton uses a Nikon D800E 36mp DSLR along with a lot of other equipment.

The areas of the photograph that are most sharp are the rocks and the path, this is because they are at the bottom of the image and is shown to be closer then the mounting, which the photograph is shown to be leading to

The lightest areas of the photograph is the middle of the sea and also the path, the path looks light in contrast to the rocks, which are very dark, this makes them both equally stand out because they are situated next to each other.

Marazion Blues
The setting of the photograph is St Michaels Mount, Cornwall Only 2 colours shown, white and blue

looking towards St Michaels Mount.

The dark shapes also lead to the back of the image which is the mount, because there is a lot of darkness at the bottom right, your attention is immediately drawn to this point - then you will be drawn to the dark rock in the middle of the water and then to the dark mount.

The main focus in the image I think is the mount because the other parts of the image are drawing you to the mount.

The path shown is coming from the bottom of the photograph and directing your eyes upwards to the mount. Drawing your attention to this part of the photograph.

This image is representational because it is showing you objects and places that you will recognise.

This is a naturalistic and observational photograph because it is a natural environment and is observed rather then posed.

The path could be acting as lines of direction to the image. (arrows show the way your eyes are being directed) The main colour in this image is blue, because everything in this photograph is blue, containing different shades of the colour. There is depth to this photograph, because not everything in the photograph is at the same place. The mount is situated much further away.

The angle of this photograph was obviously well though through, it is slightly high because it looks down onto the rocks and path but also the Photograph goes right back to see the mount In the background.

The background of this Image is the mount, which seems to look very far away.

There is texture to this photograph. Which is the water, the rocks and the path. There is a pattern on these objects which help you to think about what they feel like. The rocks have ridges on so they would feel bumpy. And the path has lots of little bits of granite on so it would feel rough.

Dynamic range is included in this photograph because of the different tones of shades, ranging from white to dark blue. All across the sea is different shades of blue and also the sky. This makes the picture look very cold.

This Image is very abstract, because it is hard to tell what the Photograph is. It contains a lot of lines and shapes within it, containing different colours. This Photograph is naturalistic because its of a natural object. High sharpness throughout the whole photograph. The lines within the image direct your eyes up to the top of the Image. The photographer has not done this on purpose because there is nothing to show at the top. It is just part of the abstract Photograph.

The geometric shapes make the photo look like ice. Because of the cracks distributed through them. The image is flat and there is not depth or space within it. The photographer has probably made it like this on purpose because he wants the photograph to be about the shapes. The dynamic range is scattered around the image ranging from white to dark blue. Which makes the image look cold.

There is a texture within the photograph because you can see all the cracks and lines, which makes it look like ice so the surface will probably feel very cold and sharp. The photograph was taken face onto the image with not angles.

The content of the photograph is mountains and a lake.

The contents of the photograph are natural. The photograph is very colourful, with all natural colours. The setting of the image is natural and is in Yosemite Valley, California The composition of the image has worked out really well for the arrangement of the elements. The Photograph is quite sharp on all of the photograph, especially the rocks beneath the water, to make them stand out more.

The photograph is very busy with a lot of things happening in it. The content is very detailed, so none of the image is focused mainly on one aspect.

The sky is very bright and the trees look still which connotes it is a nice day.

The yellows and the greens connote warmness. The texture of the mountains look very rough and also the trees and rocks. The trees look very thick and bristly.

The mountains look towards the back of the image (background)

The photograph is took from eye level with no angles. Probably used a wide lens to fit all of the image in. There is symmetrical balance within the photograph, of the mountains reflected in the water. This creates a bit of an unusual look to a photo but shows natural beauty.

The Photograph has high key lighting. But because it is outside and uses natural light, it was probably taken with the sun high in the sky, in mid day.

The saturation has probably been slightly altered because the colours are very predominant and bright.

There is a lot of depth in the photograph because the mountains are obviously a lot higher then the lake. Also the different heights of the mountains are different.

Laura Gilpin
Gilpin was an American Photographer, and became famous from her south-western Landscape Photographs. She was boring April 22nd 1891 and died November 30th 1979. When Gilpin was 12 years old the first ever camera came about, she took a lot of interest in photography when her parents bought her a brownie camera. She was advised to go to Clarence White school to study techniques and skills of photography and after 2 years she carried it on specialising in Portraits and Landscapes. By the end of the decade her photographs were being exhibited. She made most of her money through portraits, as she opened a studio in Colorado springs, but she gained fame from landscapes she had taken photographs of.

In 1974 she got an award for excellence In art, awarded by the governor of new Mexico. She continued to be a photographer for the rest of her life.

This image looks a bit abstract because of the strange colour use and the shapes and lines.

The whole of the photograph has high sharpness and is very detailed.

The photograph is monochrome.

There is a bit of depth in the photograph because the photograph looks like the sand is on a slope. There is a lot of space within the photograph. The texture of the photograph looks soft. The darkness of the hill on the back suggest that the sun is at the top left hand corner, which means it will be early in the morning if taking this photograph looking at the north. There are some tones of the hill of different shades of grey and black to show where the light is and isnt,.

The content of the photograph looks like sand and a sand hill in the background.

The photo is naturalistic because it is a natural landscape although it is edited to not look like one.

The lighting in the photograph is harsh and very bright, with the use of natural light but manipulation to make it look brighter. The back of the photograph has enhanced shadows.

Both shadows and highlighting has been enhanced to make contrast even stronger.

There are thin lines running through the photo in direction to the back, this makes your eyes follow to lines to the back to look at the dark object which makes the photograph look abstract.

The lines are thin and curvy which gives an idea that they are the shadow of the sand and the picture is a desert.

The photograph is sort of busy because there are a lot of lines, to many to even count and they arent all the same or going the same way. The vantage point of this photograph is at eye level.

The background is the sand hill and it seems to be far away. The image is asymmetrical because the elements are not evenly distributed. The setting of this image looks like it is in a desert The main focus of the image I think are the lines because they have the highest sharpness and are contrasted really high next to the white sand. The contrast on this image is really high that you only see strong black and white colour. This manipulation makes the photograph seem abstract because it is not normal.

The content of this image is mountains with a river running through them. The image is naturalistic because these mountains have formed naturally, along with the river. And the photograph is not posed. There is no main focus with the image. The sharpness is high throughout and he lighting is quite low key which make the photo look gloomy and dull. It looks like bad weather.

The photograph is monochrome because it is black and white.

The photograph has a lot of depth because it is taken from a high vantage point.

The photograph is quite crowded because of the rocks and mountains and it doesnt look like there is a lot of space on the surface because of the large river. The elements in the picture look like they would feel rough, because the mountain has lines down the side, they would be rough to touch. There are a range of tones running through the mountain, ranging from a light grey to very dark grey.

The most highlighted parts of the photograph are parts of the river which are white.

He shadows of the photograph are the sides of mountains where the sun cannot reach.

The setting is in the south of America outdoors.

The photograph is busy because there is a lot to look at including, mountains, rocks, trees, the river and there are a lot of it compact into the photograph.

This Photograph has high contrast which makes the river stand out amongst the black around it. The river could be shown as a curvy line, drawing your eyes to the sea. Naturalistic / observational photograph of a location

High contrast in the photograph

The vantage point of the photograph is a slight high angle

The setting is a landscape

The stream running through is very thin, the line shows movement because of the different shades in it. Also the line creates a sense of direction to the sea Monochrome photograph

The main focus on this photograph is the bright curvy line running through it

Only really 3 different shades in the photograph, quite simple

Passive photograph, only a sea and a steam, nothing busy about it

The dark colours create a negative mood in the photograph

The photograph has a big depth of field and there is a lot of space in the photograph. The photograph seems to go really far back because you can faintly see the horizon
