• We know that the equation is like this :
• X^2 – (Sum of roots)X + Product of roots
• Sum of roots = 3
• X^2 +Y^2 = 29

• XY = -10

write 3x+4x = 126

• Let us assume the length of the train as X
• Let us assume the speed of the cyclist to be Y.
• X / (54-y) = 12/3600
• X/(54+y) = 6/3600
• Solving it we get :
• 3600x = 648 – 12Y
• 3600X = 324 + 6Y
• We get 18Y = 324
• Y =18

• X = 12 / 100 (KM)

• Convert the speed of cyclist into meters per
second. 18 * 5/18 = 5 meters per second
• This is 5meters per second.

A,B,C are 3 pipes which can

hours respectively. They can be
used as inlet or outlet pipes. In the
first hour A and B are inlets but C is

• In a span of 3 hours, each pipe is open for
2 hours as inlet and 1 hour as outlet. Thus
each pipe is inlet for 1 hour.
• Combine these :
• 1/8 + 1/10 + 1/12
LCM of 8,10,12 is 120

Ankit holds 500 shares in JSPL,
which gives 20% dividend. When the
shares are at 675, he sells them and
invests half the proceeds in 10%
stocks at 90. The remaining amount
is invested in a house, which gives an
annual rent of Rs. 2000. find change

Solution..
• He gets 20% so he should get 20*500 = 10,000
per year of return now. (assuming the share to
have a face value of 100)
• Half of the amount will be : 250*675 = 168750
• He will be investing this in stocks – he will get :
1875 shares. On each share, he will get Rs. 10,
so he will get : 18750.
• On remaining money he gets 2000. thus his new

Cautions while using time related
questions
1. Convert seconds / minutes etc. in
decimals and vice versa using proper
format
2. Use 60/55 when you are calculating
exact time regarding coincidence /
opposite hands

How much time does a watch gain
or loose per day if its hands
coincide every 66 minutes?
• The hands should take 60*60/55 minutes.
• Thus it should take 65.45 minutes, (convert .45
into seconds, as it is in decimals) but it is
actually taking 66 minutes, thus the watch is
slow. It is (66 – 65 minutes and 27 seconds) =
33 seconds slow.
• In 24 hours, it will be : (24*33) = 792 seconds
slow or 13.2 minutes slow. answer
A clock is set right on Sunday
noon. It looses 5 seconds per
hour. What time will it show on
Next day at 12 o’clock?
• In 24 hours, it will loose (24*5) = 120
seconds, which is 2 minutes.

• Start from the last onwards :
• 123 * 5 = 615
• Now double it : 1230
• Now again double it : 2460
• Now 2460 * 100/82
• = 3000
• Thus originally he had 3000 mangoes.

Alternate solution…
• Start with 100,
• Deduct 18 = 82
• Now get 50% = 41
• Now get 50% again : 20.5
• Now get 1/5 of it : 4.1
• So 123*100/4.1 = 3000 answer

expenditure.(140-128.57)/140 *100

• Start with 10000,
• 80% of this : 8000
• ½ of these = 4000
• Out of these 65% are boys, thus number
of girls should be 35%, which is 1400
• If 1400 is the number of girls, then the
number of students is 10000, so if the
