An Introduction to Photoshop

What Is Photoshop ?
Photoshop is the leading editing application for digital images. Its images are used for internet, print, and many new media outlets.

Photoshop was released in 1989 to Macintosh only.


Years later, Adobe Photoshop CS6 (the latest edition) is the 13th major release of the program. *Available in 27 languages, in both Mac and Windows versions.

The basics
File > Open: open a file. New: create/add a file. Save: save your file in any of the formats available.

Edit > Access/change keyboard shortcuts.


Window > Workspace > Reset Workspace: Reverse any changes and reset to your default settings.

Note: Check marks indicate what panels are open.

Move, select, crop, eye dropper, healing brush, brush, rubber stamp, history brush, smudge, burn & dodge, hand and zoom, foreground background, etc.

TiME TO EDIT: OPENING A PHOTO

To import your image into Photoshop, go to file > open, and select your desired picture.

Cropping

Cropping an image can assist in excluding something from an image.

Everything in side the highlighted box will be included in your new image

Anything outside your photo will be cut out

Sharpening Your New Image!


To sharpen an image that is blurry or slightly unclear, place a filter on your image.
Filter > Sharpen You are able to simply sharpen the edges, the entire image, or use an un-sharpening mask But proceed with caution! Oversharpening an image can create a halo around the edges of your new photo.

Sharpening your file/image too much can also increase page load time.

Color Corrections
To alter the color dimensions of an image see your adjustments bar. Make sure youre working in RGB mode, if youre unsure of the specific color changes that would best suit your photo

To change the overall levels of your image, slide the cursor under the black and white histogram until your see the desired results.

To access curves, double click on the graph icon located in your dock panel. If you wish to brighten your photo drag your cursor along the diagonal line of the graph.

The diagonal line is the amount of light used to create the image. To add more light to specific pixel value areas ,drag your cursor towards the top portion of the graph.To extract light,pulldown on specific value point (the cursor on the graph).

The hue/saturation feature lets you adjust the hue, saturation and lightness of the entire image or just one particular section of said image.

Altering Hue/Saturation

To access the hue/saturation command choose: Image> Adjustment > Hue/Saturation

OR just select the hue/saturation tab in your dock panel.

Drag the cursor in either direction until you achieve the hue or color that you want.

Check the master box to change all colors at once
