Safety Precaution in Labs

Make sure environment around workplace is clean and systematic before and after work. Wear suitable clothing, not too tight and not too loose. Wear shoe having thick and all round sew sole when doing wiring work. Wearing slipper is strictly prohibited. Equipment used must in good and perfect condition. If not, report to officer in charge. All equipment must be kept at right and safe place so that it is easy to look for especially during emergency. After use, the equipment must be kept at its original place.

Please wear shoes in labs!

Safety Precaution in Labs (cont.)

Nobody is allowed to make joke or playing sharp instrument or object with friend while doing wiring work. Make sure the cable/conductor used fulfill its size (rating) and having suitable insulation. Make sure every electrical installation have effective earthing and avoid it from rust. After using electrical machine, it must be switch off. Any addition of circuit must be avoided unless there is permission from officer in charge.

Safety Precaution in Labs (cont.)

Do not dismantle electric component/device used in the experiment without the knowledge of officer in charge. Assistance from officer in charge must sought before testing the experiment with electrical supply In case any accident happened, inform the officer in charge immediately. All electrical supply must off after finishing the job or before leaving laboratory. Before fitting plug to the socket, socket outlet switch must be in the off condition.

Others Reminder

Wearing slipper is strictly prohibited No jeans No long hair for man No cameras No too tight or too loose clothing No round neck t-shirt Jacket is strongly recommended Attendance is compulsory

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary
Example: Safety shoes Safety goggles Ear plugs Face mask Safety helmet Overall

Hazard of Current
Current
1 mA or less Safe C urrent Values 1 mA to 8 mA

Effect
C auses no sensation - not felt. Sensation of shock, not painful; Individual can let go at will since muscular control is not lost. Painful shock; individual can let go at will since muscular control is not lost. Painful shock; control of adjacent muscles lost; victim can not let go. Ventricular fibrillation - a heart condition that can result in death - is possible. Ventricular fibrillation occurs.

8 mA to 15 mA

15 mA to 20 mA 50 mA to 100 mA

Unsafe current values

100 mA to 200 mA 200 mA and over Severe burns, severe muscular contractions - so severe that chest muscles clamp the heart and stop it for the duration of the shock. ( This prevents ventricular fibrillation) .

It's not the voltage but the current that cause hazards! 10

Safety on Control Panel

Make sure the isolator is in OFF, condition before use the panel. Arrange all tools and components in proper manner. Before testing and switch the isolator ON, inform the instructor and make sure nobody works at both panel. Please report all accident and damages.

Good Practice in Motor Control Works

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Read carefully and understand the circuit drawing and installation manual before start works Design both main/power circuit and control circuit Arrange the tools and components properly in their places Wire up the main/power circuit at first Then, wire up the control circuit Do the connectivity test, troubleshoot if necessary before apply the power supply Get permission from instructor and apply power supply.
