Before you start working with Photoshop, its important to understand the workspace and learn some basic skills.
We will being by learning about the Photoshop interface.

A) Menu bar: Photoshop contains 9 menus: File, Edit, Image, Layer, Select, Filter, View, Window & Help
B) Options bar: The Option bar allows you to set options for the tool that you are currently using

C) Toolbox: The Toolbox contains tools that youll use to work with images.
D) Active Image Area: This window shows the current image. The window title bar includes the filename, view magnification, layer name, image mode and bit depth E) Status Bar: The Status bar shows the magnification of the image and its size

F) Palettes: Palettes set options for tools and images. Related palettes appear together in the same group G) Palette Well: The Palette Well stores frequently used palettes so that you can use the workspace more efficiently. Initially, Brushes, Tool Presets, and Layer Comp are included in the Palette Well. H) Minimize, Maximize & Close: To minimize, maximize and close the Photoshop

A) Marquee Tools
Rectangular Marquee Tool: Makes a rectangular or square selection. Elliptical Marquee Tool: Makes an elliptical or circular selection. Single Row Marquee Tool: Makes a horizontal selection 1 pixel in height Single Column Marquee Tool: Makes a vertical selection 1 pixel in width

B) Move Tool
If you have made a selection, this tool will move the current selection. Also used for moving layers and guides.

C) Lasso Tools
Lasso Tool: Makes a selection by drawing freehand lines. Polygonal Lasso Tool: Creates a polygonal selection by drawing connected straight lines. Magnetic Lasso Tool: Automatically traces edges to select specific shapes within a graphic.

D) Magic Wand Tool:
Select colors that are similar to whatever color the tool is clicked on (in the image). The size of the selection is determined by the Tolerance value in the Option bar.

E) Crop Tool:
Redefines the image area by highlighting the desired area then trimming away the remaining edges

F) Slice Tools:

Slice Tool: Slices an image into smaller portions. Slice Select Tool: Selects or remove a slice.

G) Correction Tools
Spot Healing Brush Tool: Corrects small imperfections in an image
Healing Brush Tool: Removes imperfections by blending areas and matching textures, lighting, transparency and shading Patch Tool: allows you to choose a patch to cover imperfections Red Eye Tool: Remove red eye from photo. Removes light reflections

H) Painting Tools:
Brush Tool: Adds brush strokes to an image using the foreground color

Pencil Tool: Paints hard edged lines using foreground color


Color Replacement Tool: Changes a selected color to a new color

J) History Brush Tools:
History Brush Tool: Paints from a snapshot or earlier version of the image. Art History Brush: Similar to History Brush, but uses artistic strokes.

K) Eraser Tools:
Eraser Tool: Erases from image. Background Eraser: Erase the background color from a layer without affecting the foreground. Magic Eraser Tool: Erases color similar to the clicked color.

L) Fill Tools:
Gradient Tool: Fills using a color gradient. Paint Bucket Tool: Fill with foreground color or pattern.

M) Sharpness Tools:
Blur Tool: Blurs an image. Sharpen Tool: Sharpen edged within an image. Smudge Tool: Smudge an image as if it has been rubbed by a finger.
