Our latest project: Girasol Foundation

GIRASOL FOUNDATION

was formed to offer the highest quality performing arts instruction and provide all students with equal opportunities to improve their self-image and self-confidence through artistic expression share compelling stories that challenge audiences and our community to better and thus, also themselves.

In addition to our teaching efforts, we will offer public programming and extensive community outreach, including free and low-cost performances for some of the city's most underserved children, families and patrons. We will preserve our cultural heritage and traditions through neighborhood activities and inter-relation with social services organizations and community leaders. Ibetti Perez is the founder and Chair of the Foundation. Susanna Taddei and Aimara Perez the the Vice-Chairs.

Objectives / Who do we service as a Foundation

Goals & Objectives Mentor students and emerging artists and nurture their performing and technical
bilingual skills by creating workshops and spectacles for the community Create cultural events that will appeal to and educate our children and communities, closely working with their parents, community leaders, social services organizations and schools of the city of Miami and the State of Florida Focus mainly on Social Theater and Drama therapy where topics such as bullying, childrens health, emotional losses, abuse, etc., will be develop into ageadequate plays Tend to the distinctive needs of children with disabilities and/or underprivileged Create a Bilingual Visual Library for all by video taping, cataloguing and storing educational programs of our workshops & presentations

Who do we service
Children, teenagers and young adults who classified as up-coming artists in need to further their education either with after school programs, summer performing classes or all year round workshops Children and teenagers from any part of the State with special needs and/or underprivileged and their parents The Community, mainly in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties

What can we do now

Have performances of El Casting as a Social Theatre project and La Cucarachita Martina lleg a Miami and Santa a la Moda as entertainment plays for the County and/or selected non-profits involved with children (All plays are bilingual)

Donate tickets to different organizations,(as we did last year with the Cancer Support Community Kendall ) so the children can have the experience at a real theatre
Have scholarships for acting classes Have underprivileged children from organizations such as the Chapman Partnership participate in plays as extras, go to the reality show Dulces Talentos and donate the cakes from these activities back to the shelter

Drama therapy and Social Theatre: Necessary Interchanges

Cultural diversity and the regions arts, historic, and cultural resources are perhaps the regions most underappreciated and underutilized resources. By better utilizing public spaces (i.e. open parks and playhouses) Girasol Foundation could help distressed communities of the seven counties in South Florida come together to benefit their children With services that go beyond an emergency shelter, such as comprehensive case management, health and dental care, day care and much more under one roof, Girasol could help develop after school programs of Social Theatre with topics such as bullying, health issues, foster families, sexuality & any other issue present in the residents of the Chapman Houses

Chapman Partnership

The Miami Childrens Initiative

MCI is making bold moves to transform the lives of the children and families, addressing areas such as early development and care of children and education of children and youth. Girasols Social theater projects, where parents perform with their children, would help local residents come together in a fun and highly informative activity

Autism Speaks
Theatre activities can be used to teach emotion recognition and expression, non-verbal behaviors and gestures, listening skills, eye contact, conversation & social skills. Girasol has specific acting exercises and strategies to help develop critical social skills in children with special needs
