Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is the

process by which businesses negotiate their role in society In the business world, ethics is the study of morally appropriate behaviors and decisions, examining what "should be done Although the two are linked in most firms, CSR activities are no guarantee of ethical behavior

to corporate citizenship Journals increasingly rate businesses (and NGOs) on socially responsive criteria:

Bharti Airtels response to Tsunami Disaster Built a mobile network in Andaman & Nicobar islands in less than 3 months to aid rapid rehabilitation of the island
Donated Rs. 1 Crore to the Prime Ministers Relief Fund, in

addition to contributions from employees


Raised resources for Tsunami victims by initiatives such as a

Benefit Cricket Match

Bharti Airtel also partnered with an NGO to provide relief to the

flood victims in the flood hit areas of Assam, Bihar and West Bengal.

The Bank has started outsourcing some non-core back

office operations to certain small semi-urban locations.


This creates jobs for the local educated youth in those

towns with obvious gains for the families and also gives a boost to the local economy in those locations.

Bank has also appointed around 150 NGOs across the

country as business correspondents (BCs) to provide Loans to help tribals, physically challenged,etc. to earn a livelihood and join the mainstream.
The Bank also administers a payroll-giving programme

whereby employees offer deductions from their salary to donate for specified charities or social causes of their choice and the Bank contributes an equivalent amount.

The Axis Bank Foundation has a special focus on

education for the special/underprivileged children.


The Bank has decided to contribute up to one percent of

its net profit annually to the Foundation under its CSR initiative.
The Foundation partnered with twelve more NGOs,

taking the partnership to a total of 42 NGOs, for educating underprivileged children and special children all over India.

The Bank focusing on projects that encourage 'Inclusive

Education for physically challenged children, teacher training programmes that result in competencies to teach pre-primary and primary school children
Supporting vocational training centers in slum areas to

imparting training to school dropouts.


Various other initiatives such as healthcare, vocational

training and other community development programmes like afforestation and rain water harvesting in these areas.

Green@HCL
HCL has joined the national movement of businesses and

organizations that are leading the fight against global warming by aligning with Carbonfund.org, one of countrys leading carbon offset organization.
HCL planted more than 650 oak trees in 2.8 acres of land in

Champawat district of Uttarakhand.


HCL employees walk hand in hand in making the organization

green friendly by organizing plantation drives across the country, and working with organizations like Green Peace to create awareness on green issues.
