DEFINITION
Air pollution is the introduction of CHEMICALS , PARTICUL ATE MATTER , or BIOLOGICAL materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms or cause damage to the natural environment or built environment into the atmosphere.
SOURCES
The combustion of gasoline and other hydrocarbon fuels in automobiles, trucks, and jet airplanes produces several primary pollutants: nitrogen oxides, gaseous hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide, as well as large quantities of particulates, chiefly lead. In the presence of sunlight, nitrogen oxides combine with hydrocarbons to form a secondary class of pollutants, the photochemical oxidants, among them ozone and the eye-stinging peroxyacetylnitrate (PAN).
THE EFFECTS
THE AIR POLLUTION CAN EFFECT TO : HUMAN HEALTH
Generally if you are young and in a good state of health, moderate air pollution levels are unlikely to have any serious short term effects. However, elevated levels and/or long term exposure to air pollution can lead to more serious symptoms and conditions affecting human health.
Must follow a well designed environment management plan For all development activities must conduct environmental impact assessment Keep machinery and tools in good working condition Conduct environmental audit if it is a big concern If available apply tools of self monitoring and reporting to check pollution. Remain in touch with the concerned environmental regulator to get familiar with laws and regulations Avoid following short-cuts to minimize pollution for the time being.
