LITERATURE REVIEW

LESBIAN GAY CRITICISM

Lesbian and gay literary theory had emerged prominently as a distinct field only by the 1990s and it is not exclusively talk about gay or lesbian only. The purpose of this literary criticism is to show the opposite thinking of the main stream. Lesbian/gay studies within this 'queer theory' ambit have drawn

particularly on post-structuralist work of the 1980s

QUEER THEORY
Queer odd; in queer theory becomes a theory which can be used in gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender in understanding their life In Critical Approaches to Literature (2012) queer theory is a relatively recent and evolving school of criticism, which questions and problematizes the issues of gender identity and sexual orientation in literary texts . it is (Spargo: 1999) stated that according to Michel Foucault sexuality is not a natural feature or fact of human life but a constructed category of experience which has historical, social and cultural, rather than biological, origins

Barry, 2002 stated there are certain steps that may be done by a gay literature critic

mirror the moment of self identification as lesbian or gay. Expose the 'homophobia' of mainstream literature and criticism

The keywords in using queer theory are: homosexual, identity, homophobia

HOMOSEXUALITY

2 Causes of homosexual as stated in Family Council (1995);

hormonal factor (born as gay), and the result of psychological

and environmental influences and early experiences

Homosexuals are marginalized by mainstream so they often

hide their identity or make their own community

When a man realizes that he is a gay it is his choice if he wants to open up to everyone and accepts for he is, he accepts for he is but he hides his identity or he does not accept who he really is.

GAY CLASSIFICATION

Bear the polar opposite of the Twink Otter like Bear but they are skinnier Cub usually is mate of Bear Chubby Chaser like to date larger people

TYPES OF GAY

Nottie Hotties claim that they are homosexual but they are not Sidekick Gay will not openly admit to the nature of their

sexual orientation, unapproachable by potential partners of the

same sex, marry individuals from the other sex, and pretend as if nothing had happened

Man-Gay squeaky voices, they wear outrageous vests and shorts and pants, friendly with most males and females, they are good friends with hot gals, are very good business people and always keep their words, except when there's a really hot gay guy around Gay next door virtually unidentifiable till they identify themselves

IDENTITY

a self-categorization in terms of a social category referring to a class, group, or role. Identity is related to homosexuals in terms of how

they accept for who they really are and they

showed their identity to society (social identity)

Who am I?

HOMOPHOBIA

an emotional or affective response including fear, anxiety, anger, discomfort, and aversion that an individual experiences in interacting with gay (Adams et al: 1996).

Another definition of homophobia is the term for someone who is afraid to show his identity as a

homosexual or gay (Thamrin: 2011).

Blumenfed, 1992 in Homophobia: How We All Pay the
