Poorvakarma for Rasayana The person has to undergo Vamanadi Samshodhana karma & later when he attains Prakruta bala, Rasayana prayoga is to be done. Without Shodhana if Rasayana is administered it becomes vyartha like Maleena vastre ranga ivaphalaha (A.H.U.1/4).

Generally in Vrudhaphya Shodhana is contraindicated but mridu type of Shodhana is followed as preventive aspect and as well as for Rasayana effect.

 In patient all shodhana are not essential to carry only depending upon the dosha utklishta avastha shodhana is done. After shodhana samsrajan krama is followed. Yavanna bhojana for 3/5/7 days for prakruta mala prapti. Then rasayan is administered.

1) Kutee praveshika Rasayana Chikitsa:

It is the most important and the prime Rasayana chikitsa, where the person will be entering into a three layered building called Trigarbha Kuti,which is having regulated air flow and light. The person after the cleaning process of body and mind with Panchakarma procedures, on an auspicious day will enter inside the Kuti and will have to stay inside for a minimum of 45 days. During these days the main food supplement will be the Rasayana Oushadhas Less in practice now.

2)Vatatapika Rasayana Chikitsa :

It is the intake of Rasayana in the normal routine of life, i.e.; the person will have the exposure with sun and wind as usual. More in practice now as easy to follow.

Preparing The Amalakee Rasayana

THE CLEANED AMALAKI(GOOSBERRY) WILL BE PLACED INSIDE A DRILLED STEM OF PALASHA VRIKSHA (BUTEA MONOSPERMA, WHICH BELONGS TO THE FAMILY FABACEAE.) AND WILL BE CLOSSED TIGHTLY WITH ANOTHER PIECE OF THE SAME WOOD AND WILL BE COVERED WITH MUD ESPECIALLY FROM A POND WHICH IS WITH LOTUS.AND AFTER PEOPER COVERING IT WILL BE KEPT FOR FIRE WITH DRIED COWDUNG.AFTER 3-4 HRS IT WILL BE TAKEN OUT AND THE MUD SEALING WILL BE BROKEN AND THE BOILED AMALAKI WILL TAKEN OUT FOR THE OTHER PROCEDURES TO MAKE THE RASAYANA.

RASAYANA AS IMMUNOMODULATOR

o Activation of macrophages for enhanced generation, o Stimulation of cytotoxic activity and Phagocytosis, o To prove the hypothesis that Rasayana drugs may have immunity promotion effects, DR.Gurdip Singh (1982) carried out an experimental study and showed that Vacha (Acorus columus), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) and Mandukaparni (Hydrocotyle asiatica) significantly increase the serum humoral antibodies in rabbits. Out of these three drugs, the effect of Mandukaparni (Hydrocotyle asiatica) was considered better.

Majority of Rasayana drugs were proved to have immunomodulatory property, anabolic effect and antioxidant properties. Recent advancement in the medical science is pointing toward another activity of such drugs and these are called Adaptogenic Property. What is meant by Adaptogens? The concept of 'Adaptogen' was coined in 1947 by a Russian Scientist, Lazarev. He defined them as "substances meant to put the organism into a state of non specific heightened resistance in order to resist stresses and adapt to extraordinary challenges".
