Home is a dwelling place for the physical ,intellectual and spiritual growth and institution for rest security, comfort ,companion and leisure (Aliston ,1993)

The Comfort and the attractiveness of the home emerges from interior decoration.

PRINCLES OF DECORATION
BY USING SCIENTFIC PRINCIPLES OF ART HARMONY BALANCE PROPORTION RHYTHM EMPHASIS (Goldstein and Goldstein ,1970)

HARMONY
Harmony

produces an impression of unity through the selection and arrangement of consistent objects and ideas.

BALANCE

Balance is rest or repose . The restful effect is created by grouping objects around the center in such a way that there is equal power of attraction.

PROPORTION
Proportion is the law of relationship .It refers to how an object ,idea or colour is related to each other with regard to size, number, quantity, etc . Proportion also refers to the size of design in relation to each other and the design as a whole (Nelson ,1982).

Rhythm is defined as a form of movement. Rhythm means an easy connected path along with which the eye may travel in any arrangement of lines, forms or colors in a design. (Hopkinson , I980).

Emphasis is the principle by which eye is carried first to the most important part in an arrangement and from that point to every other detail in order of importance.

WHAT TO EMPHASIS? Back ground should be less conspicious. HOW TO EMPHASIS ? Placing or grouping of object Using contrast colors. Sufficient background space WHERE TO EMPHASIS? Centre of interest or exactly at the centre of a give space.

IN ADDITION TO USING THESE PRINCIPLES

Use of colours

Principles of color use; Law of color areas; (after image) color harmonies are important.

So the knowledge about color and effective application of colors following the scientific principles of art as well as of color is important Color is defined as the reflection or absorption of light by a given surface. It has three distinct characteristics- hue, value and intensity (Lew ,1984). Colour plays an important role in weaving a harmonious picture and helps to establish a feeling of comfort and warmth.
THE CHARACTERSTICS OF COLOUR . Hue is the particular shades or tint of the color. Values is the lightness or darkness of the color . Intensity is the degree of brightness or dullness of the color

General guidelines

Colors in large areas should have similar reflectance's, especially if the areas are adjacent to each other. Large areas or big objects should not be painted in bright, intense colors because it cause people to see after images. Contrasting colors in spaces are important to relieve visual monotony

Work requiring intense concentration is done ( a technical writers office or a data entry center, for example ), walls and ceilings should be painted in light colors that do not attract attention.
Bright, intense colors such as orange, bright yellow, red, and bright blue are best used in places that are mainly used for short periods of time. For example, entrance halls, corridors, circulation. Variety can be introduced through accessories such as plants, photos in workstations, and woven wall hangings.(Joyce and Wallersteiner,1989)

HOUSE CAN BE A HOME WHEN IT SHELTERS THE BODY AND COMFORTS THE SOUL

So let us be surrounded by beautiful things but it should be functional too, as the purpose of ID is mainly three fold, functional and aesthetic and off course self expression.
