Job Satisfaction is the feeling an employee gets when the job he does fulfills all his expectations.

ABOUT CHENNAI PORT


Situated in the Coromandel Coast in South-East India, the port of Chennai has more than 100 years of tradition. Chennai Port is the third oldest port among the 12 major ports, is an emerging port in the East Coast of India. Port operation started in the year 1881.

Chennai Port comes under the Ministry of Shipping. Chennai Port Trust consist of 10 Departments.

Objectives of the Study


PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
To study on Job Satisfaction among

the employees of Chennai Port Trust.

Secondary Objectives

To know about the satisfaction of the employees towards Pay and Benefits provided at Chennai Port Trust.

To know about employees attitude towards companys policies and procedures. To know the interpersonal relationship existing between the employees of Chennai Port Trust.
To evaluate the satisfaction of the employees regarding the working condition at Chennai Port Trust. To offer valuable suggestions to improve the satisfaction of the employees of Chennai Port Trust.

Scope of the study


This study is helpful to identify various factors

which leads to employee satisfaction towards his/her job.


This study help the organization in identifying

the areas of dissatisfaction of toward the job.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


The number of employees in Chennai Port

Trust is more, so sample size is limited by 50.


Some respondents hesitated to give the

actual situation; they feared that management would take any action against them.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
The present study is descriptive in nature, as it describes data and characteristics about the population or phenomenon that is being studied.

Data collection
For any study there must be data for analysis purpose. Data collection plays an important role in any study. It can be collected from various sources. The data is collected from two sources which are given below: Primary Data (Questionnaire & Personal Observation) Secondary Data (Journals, websites etc.)

Sample size

The study sample constitutes 50 respondents constituting i the research area.

Sampling Design

I have used non-probability sampling in which convenien sampling is used.

Research Instrument

Questionnaire is used as my research Instrument (contain 22 questions) which is organized in such a way that elic all the relevant information that is needed for the study.

Statistical Tools
The statistical tools to be used for analyzing the data collected are percentage analysis and chi- square.

Analysis of Data
The collected data are analyzed and interpreted using statistical tools and techniques.

FINDINGS
PAY AND BENEFITS
52% of the respondents say that, performance linked

salary is not given.


56% of the respondents are sufficient with the

benefits extended by the company.


36% of the respondents say that the service reward

and award given by the organization is motivating.

1. Most of the respondents are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied with the Training program Recruitment policy Selection Procedure Grievance Handling Procedure and with The present Transfer policy

2. Most of the respondents are Dissatisfied with the Present Promotion Procedure.

FINDINGS
3. 44% of the respondents agree that the company clearly communicates its goals and strategies to them. 4. 44% of the respondents neither agree nor disagree that there is an adequate planning of corporate objectives. 5. 52% of the respondents say that, they are not given wider career opportunities in this organization.

INTER-PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP

46% of the respondents say that they have a positive

relationship with their superior.


56% of the respondents agree that it is very easy to

get along with their colleagues.


44% of the respondents are satisfied with the

superior and subordinate relationship that is existing in the organisation.

WORKING CONDITION
38% of the respondents are neither satisfied nor

dissatisfied with the companys infrastructure.

Most of the respondents are satisfied with the place

of work and regarding the ventilation of office.


Most of the respondents are very fairly satisfied with

the cleanliness in the office, furniture, and regarding the stationery facilities available in the office.

FINDINGS
Overall, most of the respondents are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied with the Chennai Port Trust as an employee.

FINDINGS BASED ON TOOLS


There is a relationship between the experience of the employee and his overall satisfaction with Chennai Port Trust as an employee.
There is a relationship between the age of the respondents and his/her satisfaction towards working condition of the organisation.

SUGGESTIONS
To increase the job satisfaction of the employees, the company should concentrate on the following criteria

Performance based salary and wider career opportunities could be given to deserving employees Company should give promotion to those employees who deserve it. As regards the canteen facility, nearly 1/2 of the employees (44%) show dissatisfaction, which requires immediate attention of the Management. Companys working condition could be much improved.

SUGGESTIONS
Management should try to convert unsatisfied employees into satisfied employees. Because if employees are not satisfied then he/she will not be able to give his/her 100% of work and the productivity of the employee decreases. So the management should try to satisfy its employees because employees are the great assets of the organisation.

CONCLUSION

It is concluded that the employees of Chennai Port Trust are partly satisfied with the facilities and amenities provided by the organization. They are happy about the relationship with their superiors and with their peers. The employees also feel that they have adequate job security in view of the additional support and care in which the organization is concentrating apart from the organizations goals and targets.
