WRITING A RESEARCH PROPOSAL

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Provides the context of the problem. This may be the justification for conducting the study that you propose or this may constitute some statements made by authorities concerning the topic of the research

Introduction explains the macro description of the study and cites situations or statement of authorities to explain why the study is being conducted

Background of the Study

This section provide ideas which caused the researcher to undergo this particular study. Also , the information on the setting like geographical location, cultural and demographic characteristics, political or economic information, depending on the focus of the study.

Statement of the Problem

Sets the direction of the inquiry, it is verbalization of the question which the study proposes to answer. This divides into major/main problem and the minor/subproblems and may be stated declaratively or interrogatively

There should be at least three specific questions in the Statement of the Problem

Theoretical Framework

the theory on which the study is premised on theories of authors in order to establish the relationship among the variable or variables in the study This portion presents the theory which is the cornerstone of the research or springboard of the study The authorities who formulated the theories and ideas as basis of the study are cited.

Conceptual Framework/Research Paradigm

Refers to the researchers concepts or ideas about his study, consisting of inputs, process and outputs of the study

Objective of the Study/Purpose of the Study

Specific Objective

Significance of the Study

Contribution of the proposed study either to a body of scientific knowledge , to practitioners in the area of the research or to any other group which will benefit from the results.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

Boundaries like geographic, population, time and variables Weaknesses/shortcomings of the study perceived by the researcher
