Pspice Tutorial

Setup
*do

not forget to include schematics part during set up process.

After installation you will have the compenents seen below. Start Pspice Schematics as seen in the picture. Other compenents will start automaticly as they are needed.

You will have the window seen below

Important!
Ctrl+G get a new part you will see the list of devices.By selecting place, you can place the compenets on the screen by left click allows you to rotate the compenets allows you to connect compenets with wire. Start with left click. Rigth click will stop this.

Ctrl+R Rotate Ctrl+w get wire

** Wires and parts may be repositioned by selecting and dragging. *** In Pspice every cuircuit needs a ground ** do not forget to specify units of every value.

Example

compute the voltages and curent between every node when V= 5V AC.

By Ctrl+G you will get the window on the rigth. Select place, and place compenent to the main window with left click. For this example we will use VAC(simple AC voltage sorce), and two resistors. Press Ctrl+G then R for resistor, and VAC for AC voltage supplier. Close the part browser window. Connect the compenents with wire as shown in the problem.

Double click on a part to set the values of the part. For example,if you double click on R5 on the example, a box will appear and you can rename it. (change R5 to whatever you want then press ok)

Similarly you can change the values of the resistance and voltage by double clicking on the value of that compenent. You can also name the wires and nodes.

When you double click on the voltage source you will see a bigger window with several parameters. You can not change most of the parmeters. Unclick include Non-changeable Attributes, and for this example set VCMAG=5V (voltage value) DC=2.5 (DC value of the voltage source)

Save your work and simulate with F11. After that a new window will occure. We will use that window for graphicall interpretation later..

Now look at the main window again and click the "ANALYSIS" from the menu bar. A pull down menu will open. Go to Display results on Schematics and click both Enable Voltage Dispaly and Enable Current Display Current and the voltage on the wires will appear on the screen. For shortcuts look the next slide

AC Sweep
AC Sweep means that you are simulating a frequency dependent source containing inductors and/or capacitors and steady-state sinusoidal sources. AC Sweep lets us to see graphically how the voltage or current varies as the frequency changes.

AC Sweep
For AC sweep, click anaysis setup (the part numbered as 2 in the shortcut list).(Analysis setup, from the menu bar.) Analysis setup window will appear. Select AC Sweep. Specify the frequency you want to start and end. For this example write the values as shown below. Then press OK

Now simulate. After simulation is complete the trace window will appear. Select trace -- > add trace from the menu bar.(shortcut insert).

You will see the window below For this example select V(Vin:+) and V1(R5)

The values will appear on the screen. You should have a graphic as seen below.

Also by voltage markers (numbered as 5 in the slide 8) you can specify one place and voltage on that wire will appear on the graphic in the color you specify.

TRANSIENT ANALYSIS
Transient Analysis enables to calculates all node voltages and branch currents over a time interval.

TRANSIENT ANALYSIS
Transient analysis can be performed similarly to the AC analysis. However, VAC must be changed to VSIN. Click on the VAC voltage source to select it and delete. Then add VSIN source and connect it in the circuit. Double click the voltage source and see the box as in the picture

TRANSIENT ANALYSIS
Enter the following values for this example: DC=0 VOFF= 2.5 V (voltage offset) VAMP = 2.5 V (voltage amplitude) FREQ = 10000 Hz

Now click OK and open setup window (analysissetup) disable AC Sweep, and select transient, For this example, type in Final time to be 1000000ns and Print step 2000ns. (ns:nanosecond)(unit prefixes are included at the last slides) Print Ceiling controlls the resolution of plot data. Write something like 20ns. Then, click OK, and simulate the circuit. Trace window will appear. Add V(V2:+), V(R6:2) from the add trace window.

You will have the graphic below

Dependent Sources
The four types of dependent sources are: Voltage controlled voltage source Voltage controlled current source Current controlled voltage source Current controlled current source Symbols E G H F

Example
Find the voltages in the circuit below by using Pspice

Number 1 and 2 forms the voltage dependent voltage source. The part numbered as 2 generates the voltage, depending on the part numbered as 1. Gain is the ratio between sources.(Gain: 100000V Vin for this example.) Next slide shows how the circuit can be drawn in Pspice.

draw the circuit as shown below. notice how dependent source is connected. be careful about units. Pspice is case insensetive. Rin is 1 meg not 1M . 1 M ohm and 1 m ohm is same which means 0.001 ohms. Next slide shows how you can set the values.

Double click on the voltage source (V4 ) and set the values: DC= 0V ACMAG=1V Double click on the capacitor and set its value to 5.9n Double click on the voltage controlled voltage source Set Gain:100000

Open anaysis setup window and select AC Sweep as we did in the AC Sweep example. For this example select decade instead of linear. This will make a smoother plot.

Put the frequency range from 1Hz to 100Hz. Choose 20 points per decade so you will have 100 data points overall.

simulate the circuit from add trace menu select V(Rout:1) You will have the graphic below.
