In Latin America, the leading sports magazines and newspapers have recognized Luis Omar Tapia as the “Best Soccer Play
by Play Announcer and Journalist”. In one of El Salvador’s leading newspapers, El Diario de Hoy, William Alfaro is quoted as
stating:

“Su estilo para narrar es casi una marca registrada alrededor del mundo. Sus apodos y muchas de sus frases son tan
famosas como ‘rabona’de Maradona, la calva de Pierluigui Collina. Es Luis Omar Tapia, el periodista chileno de la cadena
deportiva ESPN…  ”(Translation)- “His style is a trademark around the world. His phrases and nicknames are as famous as
Maradona’s back heal pass, and the bold head of international Italian referee Pierluigui Collina. He is Luis Omar Tapia the
Chilean broadcaster from ESPN.”

The humble genius behind the nicknames for some of the most well known professional soccer players has been
recognized in Wikipedia, a worldwide online encyclopedia. When searching under Zinedine Zidane, of Real Madrid, one will
come across this paragraph:
“Zidane is often considered to be one of the best footballers in the world still playing, and certainly among the most
talented. Zidane's dribbling of the ball and passing ability as a midfielder has earned him the nickname of 'genius' and
'magician' by the world's sport media (Luis Omar Tapia from ESPN calls him 'Harry Potter' in reverence of his 'magical'
abilities).”

Luis Omar Tapia was born in Santiago, Chile and moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina at a young age, where he built his
knowledge and passion for soccer. He later moved to the United Sates with his parents and two younger sisters as political
refugees in 1977.

His dream to become a professional soccer player ended when he was injured. Tapia began his tenure at ESPN in the
month of October 1991. Since then he has established himself as one of the most popular, entertaining, and influential
announcers in Latin America with his unique style and sense of humor. Has a BA in Communications.
JO EL B ENGOA

Joel Bengoais an two time Emmy award winning reporter that hails from Mexico City. For the last 7 years spent his days making sports
audiences and athletes laugh with his unique brand of humor, as a reporter for Telemundo. But make no mistake, behind the costumes and
humorous alter egos and personalities he has created, and his famous moments such as taking a “morning jog” (although he wasn’t invited)
with former Argentinian national team coach Marcelo Bielsa, following him around the streets of LA, just to get that interview (Bielsa, got such a
kick out of Joel’s dedication he answered his questions). Despite his flair for improvisation, Bengoa is respected by his peers as an expert in
soccer and boxing. Joel has covered everything from the World Cup in Germany 2006, CopaAmerica, Super Bowls, World Series, All Star
Games, NBA Championships, Olympic Games, as well as many mega boxing events in Las Vegas. Sports is not all this multitalented reporter
can do, he is also just as sharp covering the entertainment industry.

He has covered the Oscars, the Grammys, Billboard Awards, and a host of other award shows, making fans of such celebrities like The Bee
Gees when he showed up dressed like Travolta. Elton John, Ricky Martin, Alejandra Guzman, Daddy Yankee, Shakira, Don Omar, and Will
Ferrell also have been impressed by Bengoa’s antics.

Deporte en Mente will not be the first show Bengoa and Garcia Marquez team up on. The duo has joined forces before, leading shows like
‘Dodgers en Domingo’, ‘El Show de Los Lakers’, and ‘The Rose Parade’ for Telemundo LA’s Canal 22, to ratings success. Now the tandem
brings their creativity and great chemistry to sports talk radio.
