DRESS

The line of demarcation between those who serve God and those who serve Him not, is ever to remain distinct. The difference between believers and unbelievers should be as great as the difference between light and darkness. When God's people take the position that they are the temple of the Holy Ghost, Christ Himself abiding within, they will so clearly reveal Him in spirit, words, and actions, that there will be an unmistakable distinction between them and Satan's followers. Upward Look, p 244: The line of demarcation between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not is becoming more and more distinct. This is as the Lord designs it should be. An active, living faith distinguishes the people of God from the sinful, who by their rejection of Christ bear continually . to the world a plain testimony: "I will not have this man Christ Jesus to rule over me. I will not eat and drink to the glory of God, but will follow my inclination, eating and drinking as I please. What does the Bible say about makeup? (Ezekiel 23: 40, 45, Jeremiah 4:30, 2 Kings 9:22, 30)

In the texts from Ezekiel above, makeup is judged as a connection to the manner of adultery. In other words, makeup is used to entice all who are in the view of those who wear it, whether or not it is your husband or wife. Many may not wear it for this purpose, but this is the nature of this type of adornment whether you are sincere or not.

In the Jeremiah text above, it is noted that makeup is used to make thyself fair. This denotes that it is about self, which is idolatry. God is more concerned with our characters than this type of adornment. See 1 Peter 3:3, 4. In the 2 Kings texts above is it noted that the wicked queen Jezebel adorned herself with makeup. Any sincere Christian woman would not want to imitate Jezebels example. It is also very unhealthy

ALL WHO ARE SUPPORTING MAKE UP..........808. Ladies may resort to COSMETICS to restore the tint of the complexion, but they cannot thus bring back the glow of healthful feelings to the heart. That which darkens and makes dingy the skin also clouds the spirits and destroys cheerfulness and peace of mind.--H. R. {HL 191.1} 498. Many are ignorantly injuring their health and endangering their lives by using COSMETICS. . . When they become heated, . . . the poison is absorbed by the pores of the skin, and is thrown into the blood. Many lives have been sacrificed by this means alone.--H. R. {HL 189.2}

Ladies may resort to COSMETICS to restore the tint of the complexion, but they cannot thus bring back the glow of health. That which renders the skin dark and dingy, also clouds the spirits, and destroys cheerfulness and peace of mind. Every woman who values health should avoid hanging any weight upon the hips. The shoulders should sustain the weight of every article of clothing worn upon the person. This will go far to prevent the weaknesses which prevail among women to such an alarming extent. {CTBH 88.3}

And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.(Jeremiah 4:30)

NOT NATURAL HAIR

"Fashion loads the heads of women with artificial braids and pads, which do not add to their beauty, but give an unnatural shape to the head. The hair is strained and forced into unnatural positions, and it is not possible for the heads of these fashionable ladies to be comfortable. The artificial hair and pads covering the base of the brain, heat and excite the spinal nerves centering in the brain. The head should ever be kept cool. The heat caused by these artificials (sic) induces the blood to the brain. The action of the blood upon the lower or animal organs of the brain, causes unnatural activity, tends to recklessness in morals, and the mind and heart is in danger of being corrupted. As the animal organs are excited and strengthened, the moral are enfeebled. The moral and intellectual powers of the mind become servants to the animal." (The Health Reformer, October 1, 1871, paragraph 9)

Many have lost their reason, and become hopelessly insane, by following this deforming fashion.

Proverbs 6:24-26 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

Tattoos and the Bible Leviticus 19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. Deuteronomy 14:1-3 Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead. For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. The Body the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

God requires the body to be rendered a living sacrifice to him, not a dead or a dying sacrifice. The offerings of the ancient Hebrews were to be without blemish, and will it be pleasing to God to accept a human offering that is filled with disease and corruption? He tells us that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost; and he requires us to take care of this temple, that it may be a fit habitation for his Spirit. The apostle Paul gives us this admonition: "Ye are not your own; for ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." [1 COR. 6:19, 20.] All should be very careful to preserve the body in the best condition of health, that they may render to God perfect service, and do their duty in the family and in society. {CTBH 52.3}

It is as truly a sin to violate the laws of our being as it is to break the ten commandments. To do either is to break God's laws. Those who transgress the law of God in their physical organism, will be inclined to violate the law of God spoken from Sinai.

"Sisters who were once plain in dress are now conforming to fashion. God expects his commandment-keeping people to be distinct from worldlings, but in many instances the line of demarcation is hardly discernible." R&H

Satan is constantly devising some new style of dress that shall prove an injury to physical and moral health; and he exults when he sees professed Christians eagerly accepting the fashions that he has invented.

Why Are We Copying The Fashions of the World? For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

"It is true today that the corsets and dresses of most women are worn too tight for the proper action of the vital organs. The lungs, heart, and liver are burdened in their work. Every article of clothing upon the person should be worn so loose that, in raising the arms, the clothing will be correspondingly lifted by the action." ~The Health Reformer, February 1, 1877

"Every Christian woman should dress neatly, simply, and healthfully, whether the world approve or disapprove. This cannot be done in adopting the present style of dress." ibid.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (2 Corinthians 6:17)
When the Bible says, "And be ye separate" it means to SEPERATE from the world, and all its corrupting influences. Said Christ, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Those who are attracted to Christ and who live for the future immortal life, will not be slaves of fashion.

In order to secure the most healthful clothing, the needs of every part of the body must be carefully studied. The character of the climate, the surroundings, the condition of health, the age, and the occupation must all be considered. Every article of dress should fit easily, obstructing neither the circulation of the blood nor a free, full, natural respiration. Everything

worn should be so loose that when the arms are raised the clothing will be correspondingly lifted. {MH

I beg of our people to walk carefully and circumspectly before God. Follow the customs in dress so far as they conform to health principles. Let our sisters dress plainly, as many do, having the dress of good, durable material, appropriate for this age, and let not the dress question fill the mind. Our sisters should dress with simplicity. They should clothe themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety. Give to the world a living illustration of the inward adorning of the grace of God.--3SM 242 (1897). {LDE88.4} The outside appearance is an index to the heart.--1T 136 (1856). {LDE 89.1}

10 Reasons SATAN wants you to wear PANTS

Satan wants you to wear pants because he hates your family. He hates the sanctity of marriage. He hates Gods plan of having the man be the head of the household. He would like women to be the heads of their households. He knows that if women wear pants, it tends to make them less submissive to their husbands, and causes strife in the home. Frequency in divorce has escalated with the acceptance of pants on women. The children become confused, and grow up without a clear picture of Gods order for the sexes. Show and fashion are the demon altar upon which many American women sacrifice their children. 2 SM 266

1. Satan wants you to wear pants because he hates Gods creation! He hates the male and female design. He hates your femininity. He wants to take it away from you. He wants to blur the distinction between male and females, and he knows that pants on women are a tool that will help accomplish his devious goal. There is an increasing tendency to have women in their dress and appearance as near like the other sex as possible, and to fashion their dress very much like that of men, but God pronounces it abomination. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety. 1 Timothy 2:9. 1 T 457

2. Satan wants you to wear pants because he wants you to help promote his ungodly feminist movement. He designed this movement to ensnare rebellious women who are opposing their God-ordained role, and fighting against Gods plan. He first got men to oppress women, then got women to rise up against oppression, going to the other extreme in seeking to usurp their power over men. Pants on women grew out of the feminist movement, and is their trademark. Women who wear pants are unwittingly perhaps promoting the feminist movement.

Those who feel called out to join the movement in favor of womans rights and the so-called dress reform might as well sever all connection with the third angels message. The spirit which attends the one cannot be in harmony with the other. The Scriptures are plain upon the relations and rights of men and women. {1T 421.4}

3. Satan wants you to wear pants because because he wants your worship. The feminist movement and spiritualism are bound together, and those who have accepted his program are acknowledging their allegiance to him. Evil spirits manifested themselves to the first ladies to promote pants on women. They got the idea from the devil, and those who accept it are pleasing him greatly! You cannot separate the history of pants on women from spiritualism. Pants on women give the devil a foothold in your life. Spiritualists have, to quite an extent, adopted this singular mode of dress. Seventh-day Adventists, who believe in the restoration of the gifts, are often branded as spiritualists. 1T 421

If we obey the divine injunction we shall have no sympathy with spiritualists, however smooth and fair may be their words. {Con 91.1} 4. Satan wants you to wear pants because he hates your family. 5. Satan wants you to wear pants because he hates sexual purity. He wants to promote homosexuality, rape and sexual deviants. He knows that women in pants causes sexual confusion and increased crime. He wants men to see women as sex objects rather than to respect their graceful femininity. Women in clothing that resembles mens causes moral depravity and disorientation. He wants you to help further his agenda by wearing pants.

The love of dress endangers the morals and makes woman the opposite of the Christian lady characterized by modesty and sobriety. Showy, extravagant dress too often encourages lust in the heart of the wearer and awakens base passions in the heart of the beholder. God sees that the ruin of the character is frequently preceded by the indulgence of pride and vanity in dress. 4t 645

God designed that there should be a plain distinction between the dress of men and women, and has considered the matter of sufficient importance to give explicit directions in regard to it; for the same dress worn by both sexes would cause confusion and great increase of crime. 4T 460 Demoralizing extravagance prevails everywhere, and souls are going to ruin because of their love of dress and display. MYP 359 6. Satan wants you to wear pants because he hates godly influence. He wants to destroy your influence by having you dress just like the world in their pagan practices. This makes people believe that you are not sincere in what you are preaching. He knows that he can injure the influence of Seventh-day Adventist women who wear pants.

Many dress like the world in order to have an influence over unbelievers, but here they make a sad mistake. If they would have a true and saving influence, let them live out their profession, show their faith by their righteous works, and make the distinction plain between the Christian and the worldling. The words, the dress, the actions, should tell for God. Then a holy influence will be shed upon all around them. 4T 634 Let them adopt this costume, and their influence is dead. 1T 457 Let the sisters adopt the American costume and they would destroy their own influence and that of their husbands. 1T 458

7. Satan wants you to wear pants because he wants to use you as a stumbling block to both your brothers and sisters. Most womens pants reveal the female form in a way that tempts men to have impure thoughts. Their eyes are drawn to your private areas. This could cause you to be the instigator of their immoral thoughts, thus making you responsible for their sin. And when you wear pants, even if they are not tight, you put your approval on the wearing of pants for women, so that your sisters feel encouraged to do the same. Although theirs may be tighter than yours, your example serves to encourage them in the wearing of pants. They become bold with a false sense of security and frivolity. With the so-called dress reform there goes a spirit of levity and boldness just in keeping with the dress. Modesty and reserve seem to depart from many as they adopt that style of dress. 1T457

By your unsanctified lives you have laid stumbling blocks before your own children and before unbelievers. Some of you move by impulse, act from passion and prejudice, and bring impure, tainted offerings to God. TM146

I was shown that God would have us take a course consistent and explainable. 1T 458

8. Satan wants you to wear pants because he wants you to be a follower of fashion. Pant styles are frequently changing, from bell bottoms, to straight legs, to Capri length, and now to harem pants. He wants you to pay attention to styles, and keep current, so he can control your affections, and wean them from God. He wants you to spend time and money keeping up with fashion. He knows that fashion followers cannot be loyal to God. He wants your fashion consciousness to cause you to wear things that dont glorify God. In these last days, fashions are shameful and immodest. They are noticed in prophecy. They were first brought in by a class over whom Satan has entire control, who, being past feeling [without any conviction of the Spirit of God] have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

If Gods professed people had not greatly departed from Him, there would now be a marked difference between their dress and that of the world. 1T 189 4T 647 Obedience to fashion is pervading our Seventh-day Adventist churches and is doing more than any other power to separate our people from God. 4T 647 9. Satan wants you to wear pants because he wants you to disobey Gods Word. He wants you to do that which God has declared to be an abomination. He wants you to justify and excuse your rebellion. He wants to have you profess to be a worshipper of God, while you are actually promoting his agenda.

I saw that Gods order has been reversed, and His special directions disregarded, by those who adopt the American costume. I was referred to Deuteronomy 22:5: The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a womans garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God. God would not have His people adopt the so-called reform dress. It is immodest apparel, wholly unfitted for the modest, humble followers of Christ. 1 T 421 One of the points upon which those newly come to the faith will need instruction is the subject of dress. Let the new converts be faithfully dealt with. 1T 465

The idolatry of dress is a moral disease. It must not be taken over into the new life. In most cases submission to the gospel requirements will demand a decided change in the dress. CG 432 10. Satan wants you to wear pants because he wants to bring sorrow to Gods heart. He wants Gods professed people to be lukewarm and powerless. He wants them to look like the world, and act like the world. He wants to lead them to think theyre on the narrow path while they are actually on the broad road to destruction. He wants to grieve the loving heart of God by using women in pants in church leadership, so that all the other women think that God approves. And Satan rejoices as the angels weep.

Were the apostle Paul alive, and should he behold women professing godliness with this style of dress, [American costume] he would utter a rebuke. 1 T 460 Do not, my sisters, trifle longer with your own souls and with God. I have been shown that the main cause of your backsliding is your love of dress. 4 T647 Man is forbidden to give to any other object the first place in his affections or his service. Whatever we cherish that tends to lessen our love for God or to interfere with the service due Him, of that do we make a god. PP 305

Is it not obvious that the line of distinction between the dress of men and women has been increasingly blurred?

Honorable is beautiful in the eyes of God Samuel Dessin "The Reviver" Biblically speaking, if you're not covered adequately, you're naked in the eyes of God. We wear clothes for a reasonwe have SINNED from the beginning! So, by exposing our bodies we are implying that man never sinned.

"Mini clothes are symbolic [a meaning] of those girls who want to SEDUCE a man" Mary Quant, the inventor of the miniskirt. In an interview she was asked what kind of person today's woman wants to be, and she answered, "A sexual creature. She displays her sexuality instead of this coy business of hiding it. Today she dresses to say, 'I am sexy. I like men. I enjoy life.'"

Many women have brushed aside criticism of their short dresses by blaming everything on the dirty old men with their evil thoughts. But is that the basic fault? This is not confined to "dirty old men." Every man, woman, and child in the world has a carnal nature by birth. But the male struggle to keep the thoughts straight is based upon more than the fleshly nature. It is rooted in the fact that God created men with a completely different sexual makeup than women.

God made man in the beginning with a very sensitive sexual nature that could be quickly aroused by the sight of female nudity. Woman, on the other hand, was created with a sexual nature which would not be so easily stirred, especially by sight. She was made to be more responsive to touch and tenderness. Her more subtle sexuality could be drawn out by the physical attentions involved in the conjugal relationship. God never intended for man's sex emotions to be stimulated outside the marriage chamber. And in order to protect him God placed within the woman a delicate sense of modest reserve, so that she would not expose her body except to her own husband.

The plan was perfect, but it has broken down in one area. Satan has managed to destroy to a very great extent that inherent modesty with which the Creator endowed womanhood. Uninhibited nudity or provocative haft-dress has become the accepted norm of modern fashion. On every side, the Christian, as well as the non-Christian, is forced to look upon scenes of nakedness which are utterly foreign to the original plan of the Creator.

Biblically speaking, if you're not covered adequately, you're naked in the eyes of God. We wear clothes for a reasonwe have SINNED from the beginning! So, by exposing our bodies we are implying that man never sinned.

Many have lost their reason, and become hopelessly insane, by following this deforming fashion. Yet the slaves to fashion will continue to thus dress their heads, and suffer horrible disease and premature death, rather than be out of fashion. Words to Christian Mothers, 1871 If God had required of society so great a sacrifice for his sake, what mourning we should bear of the terrible burdens imposed upon those who follow Christ.

But the slaves to fashion take these burdens upon themselves, and make their own life very wearisome with needless care, in their anxiety to keep pace with fashion. They lay
upon the altar of fashion, health, happiness, life and Heaven. Christians cannot afford to make this great sacrifice. {HR, October 1, 1871 par. 27}

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2)

God views a dress reaching the knee as an extreme short dress My views were calculated to correct the present fashion, the extreme long dress, trailing upon the ground, and also to correct the EXTREME SHORT DRESS, REACHING ABOUT TO THE KNEES, which is worn by a certain class. I WAS SHOWN that we should shun both extremes. By wearing the dress reaching about to the top of a woman's gaiter boot we shall escape the evils of the extreme long dress, and shall also shun the evils and notoriety of the extreme short dress. {1T 464.1}

God's loyal people are the light of the world, and the salt of the earth. And they should ever remember that their influence is of value. Were they to exchange the extreme long, for the extreme short dress, they would, to a great extent, DESTROY THEIR INFLUENCE. UNBELIEVERS, whom it is their duty to benefit, and seek to bring to the Lamb of God, WOULD BE DIGUSTED. Many improvements can be made in the dress of females in reference to health, without making so great a change as to disgust the beholder. {2SM 478.2}

many modern preachers are not upholding before their congregations the Biblical principles of modesty and carefulness in dress. Though we may not see naked people in the congregation, we CERTAINLY

MANY HALF NAKED WOMEN IN THE CONGREGATION WEARING MINISKIRTS, MAYBE EVEN MICROSKIRTS, SLEEVELESS BLOUSES, and PLUNGING NECKLINES.
The perversions that are permitted in the Christian church todayindeed encouraged, or at least not discouraged surely are SIGNS OF A FORM OF GODLINESS but a denial of the power of the everlasting gospel. To permit and to follow the PAGAN PRACTICES of Egypt and call it Christianity IS AN INSULT TO JEHOVAH. The Entertainment Syndrome, Standish, 9.

Counsel for the women of God's church: "Do not, my sisters, trifle longer with your own souls and with God. I HAVE BEEN SHOWN that the main cause of your backsliding is your love of dress. This leads to the neglect of grave responsibilities, and you find yourselves with scarcely a spark of the love of God in your hearts. Without delay renounce the CAUSE of your backsliding, because it is sin against your own soul and against God. Be not hardened by the deceitfulness of sin." {CH 603.1} Why will the majority receive the mark of the Beast?

Satan says: "For fear of wanting FOOD and CLOTHING they will join with the world in transgressing God's law. The earth will be wholly under my dominion." --Last Day Events, pg 149.

Simplicity of dress will make a sensible woman appear to the best advantage. We judge of a person's character by the style of dress worn. Gaudy apparel betrays vanity and weakness. A modest, godly woman will dress modestly. A refined taste, a cultivated mind, will be revealed in the choice of simple and appropriate attire. {CH 601.2}

Early High-Heeled Shoes Before the term "stiletto" was coined, shoes with heels made to be higher than the soles were called high-heeled shoes. These still exist but are in a separate category because they have wider heels than stilletos. High-heeled shoes have a long history. In ancient Egypt most people did not wear shoes. People of the higher classes, however, did wear them. Some were sandals but there are depictions of footwear with higher heels. In ancient Rome, female prostitutes could be identified by their wearing of high-heels.

Stilettos and the 1950s In the post-war era, high fashion underwent a revival. Designers turned their attention to shoes. One area of innovation was in stilettos. These highheeled shoes with narrow heels had associations with height and attractiveness. They became increasingly popular with many women, particularly those with a slender physique. Unlike in earlier eras, they [high

heels] were strongly associated with femininity and sexual allure. This included the way the woman
wearing them had to walk. She had to take short steps and retain a particular poise to avoid falling over. The sheer pressure on the tiny heel led them to be banned from some public buildings over concerns they might cause damage

High heels gives the glory to yourSELF. Your legs, your thighs, your rear-end.

A series of 3D scans released this week show that the foot deformity caused by wearing high heels is actually much more complicated than first thought. Its the first time doctors have been able to properly investigate exactly how the foot behaves when contorted into a pair of high heels and unfortunately, the news isnt good.

"With high heels, the toes are squashed inside the shoe, said Andy Goldberg, a foot and ankle specialist. The more stiletto-shaped they are, the worse it is. The toes not only get squashed, but they become clawed too."

This leads to the neglect of grave responsibilities, and you find yourselves with scarcely a spark of the love of God in your hearts. Without delay renounce the cause of your backsliding, because it is sin against your own soul and against God. Be not hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. {CH

WHATSOEVER YE DO, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 Satan's work is to lead men to ignore God, to so engross and absorb the mind that God will not be in their thoughts.....Satan does not wish the people to have a knowledge of God; and if he can.....confuse the senses of the young that human beings will perish in darkness while light shines all about them, he is well pleased. {RH, March 13, 1900 par. 5}

Not a few of our people are backsliding. They are imitating the fashions of the world. Their spirituality is dying. Step by step they are approaching world-loving. Selfishness and pride are taking possession of them, and the love of God finds little room in their hearts. Some who were once zealous reformers are now indifferent. Sisters who were once plain in dress are now conforming to fashion. God expects his commandment-keeping people to be distinct from worldlings, but in many instances the line of demarcation is hardly discernible.

As I have seen those of our faith becoming worldly, my heart has been saddened. Some of those who profess to believe that they have the last message of mercy to give to the world, follow the fashions as far as they think their profession of faith will allow them to do. And their influence leads others astray. Their lack of Christlikeness is apparent to all. The Lord is dishonored by their conformity to the fashions of this degenerate age. Outward display is contradictory to our profession of faith. I entreat my sisters to guard against the tendency to dress in accordance with the demands of fashion.

Many of the mothers burdens are the result of her effort to keep pace with the fashions of the day. Terrible is the effect of these fashions on the physical, mental, and moral health. Lacking the courage to stand firm for the right, women allow the current of popular feeling to draw them on in its wake. Much precious time is devoted to needless stitching and ruffling, to add to the outward adorning. Children are robbed of the time that should be devoted to gaining for them the beauty of holiness, the inward adorning, which, in the sight of God, is of great price.

In order to follow fashion, many of our youth incur expenses that are out of proportion to their condition in life. Children of poor parents endeavor to dress as do those who are wealthy. Parents tax their purses and their God-given time and strength in making and remodeling clothing to satisfy their childrens vanity. If our sisters who have an abundance of means would regulate their expenditures by their responsibility to God, as wise stewards of the means entrusted to them; their example would do much to stay this evil now existing among us. Souls whom they might have helped by letting their light shine in good works, are strengthened in unbelief by their inconsistent course.

Mothers can not be slaves to fashion and at the same time exert a sanctifying influence in the home. Too often professedly Christian mothers sacrifice principle to their desire to follow the multitude who make fashion their god. Conscience protests, but they are not brave enough to take a decided stand against the wrong. Many of our sisters willingly bear the unnecessary burden of conformity to worldly dress. Attempting to follow the fashions, their burdens are greatly increased, yet they willingly bear the yoke, because they worship the goddess of fashion.

It is not only the privilege, but the duty of every one to increase daily in the knowledge of God and the truth. Satans object is gained if he can invent something that will so attract the mind that God will be forgotten, and he uses fashion with great success to do this. He knows that women who constantly have a feverish desire to follow the fashions, have benumbed their moral sensibilities, and do not realize their real spiritual condition. Worldly minded, they are without God, without hope. They take no time to pray, or to search the Scriptures in order that they may understand the truth, and teach it to their children.

When I have seen Christian women leading out in temperance campaigns, presenting to liquor inebriates a pledge to abstain from all intoxicating drinks, I have thought that it would also be well for them to present to every Christian woman a pledge to abstain from all needless display and extravagance in dress. By dressing simply, thus saving time and means, Christian women can do much to help the temperance cause. The means thus saved will clothe the destitute, feed the hungry, and will help to close the door against liquor drinking. Those who are simple in dress have time to visit the afflicted, and to pray with and for them. On all Christians rests a solemn duty to economize, that they may be better able to help those in need.

We do not discourage neatness in dress. Correct taste is not to be despised nor condemned. Our faith, if carried out, will lead us to be so plain in dress, and zealous of good works, that we shall be marked as peculiar. But when we lose taste for order and neatness in dress, we virtually leave the truth; for the truth never degrades, but elevates. When believers are neglectful of their dress, and are coarse and rough in their manners, their influence hurts the truth. We are, said the inspired apostle, made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. All heaven is marking the daily influence that the professed followers of Christ exert upon the world. My sisters, your dress is telling either in favor of Christ and the sacred truth or in favor of the world. Which is it? Remember that we must all answer to God for the influence we exert.

Simplicity of dress will make a sensible woman appear to the best advantage. We judge of a persons character by the style of dress worn. A modest, godly woman will dress modestly. A refined taste, a cultivated mind, will be revealed in the choice of a simple, appropriate attire. The young women who break away from the slavery of fashion will be ornaments to society. The one who is simple and unpretending in her dress and in her manners shows that she understands that a true woman is characterized by moral worth. How charming, how interesting, is simplicity in dress, which in comeliness can be compared with the flowers of the field.

When women wear high heels, it promotes a sensation of feeling sexy, powerful, independent and not needing a man. Does this sound godly? It corrupts the true beauty of how God created women to be; modest, chaste, keepers at home, faithful to their husbands. It encourages the worst passions in a woman. Please pray about the matter and be honest with yourself. Flat, sensible, comfortable, practical shoes are fine that do not cost a fortune. For men if their shoes are extravagant to show off then that too would be unfitting for godly conduct and they should also follow the same guideline of comfortable, most and sensible and practical. They must not bring God's character into shame by extravagance or trying to be sexy.
