Buses They are slow . They are not expensive. Planes They are fast. They are not cheap. Ships They are dizzy. They are not crowded. Underground It is safe. It is not understandable Taxis They are comfortable. They are not secure. Trains They are clean. They are not boring.

Lets compare them


The underground is safer than a taxi. A bus is slower than a taxi. A ship is cleaner than a plane. A train is more expensive than a taxi. A taxi is less comfortable than a plane. Ships are dizzier than planes.

Activity I
Complete the sentences using the correct words. Follow the example.
e.g. Cars / expensive / planes. Cars are more expensive than planes.

Did you notice the difference?


A ship is slower than a plane. A taxi is less/more comfortable than a bus. A train is noisier than a car.
Rules for comparatives: 1 syllable : (adj) + er slower, cheaper 2 syllable or more: more/less + (adj) more expensive Irregular: good better bad worse Ends with y replaced with i: dizzy dizzier noisy noisier

Write down this on your notebook and complete the dialogue with the most suitable expression.

What the teacher thinks of


I think the best way for moving from one place to another is the underground because it is faster and securer than other services. However, it is the most expensive of all. I like it because you can know exactly the time you need to go from one point to another. What I dont like is that it is quite warm and that sometimes makes me get dizzy. I dont mind going in a crowded wagon. So, I disagree with people who dont like it or dont use it because of the fact it is uncomfortable.
