Training Manual

The Engineering Data application provides overall control for material properties.
Engineering data is a part of every project. Engineering data can be opened stand alone (as a precursor to starting a project for example).

To open the Engineering Data standalone, add from the component systems in the toolbox (drag/drop or double click), then RMB > Edit or double click.

To edit the Engineering Data in an existing project RMB > Edit or double click

Outline Filter
The Engineering Data field represents the list of materials which have been imported for use in the current project

Training Manual

Check box allows library to be unlocked for editing.

A list of available material libraries is displayed. These may be ANSYS supplied or user defined.

Favorites are materials which will be available in every project without the need to import from a library.

The toolbox provides numerous material property definitions that can be added to existing or new materials. To modify materials in existing libraries the library must be unlocked, (note this permanently modifies the material stored in that library). Materials in the current projects engineering data can be modified without affecting the material library.

The Toolbox Customization settings allows filtering of the properties displayed in the toolbox.

To add a material from an existing library to the current project click the plus sign (+) next to that material (or drag and drop the material to Engineering Data)
Any material defined in the current project will be marked as show at right. Once added each material becomes available for use in the current project (it becomes part of the current Engineering Data).

Training Manual

To add a new material, first select where you want the material data to be stored
Note, materials need not be stored in a library but can be added to the current project by storing in Engineering Data.

Next provide a name for the material and begin adding components and properties from the Toolbox.

Material Models for Explicit Dynamics

Material model components are broken into categories User can choose components from each category, as required If a selected component is dependant on physical parameters, they will also be selected automatically If a selected component precludes components selected earlier, those components will be automatically suppressed
If you want them removed, you must do this manually

Engineering Data

Libraries for Explicit Dynamics

Engineering Data provides two libraries containing data suitable for Explicit Dynamics
Explicit Materials
Contains a wide range of materials generally used in non-linear explicit analyses
Models cannot be used for implicit analyses (e.g. prestressing)

Training Manual

General Non-linear Materials

Contains basic material data for non-linear analysis.
Common engineering materials Suitable for use in implicit and explicit analyses
