MINERAL RESOURCES

ROLE OF MINERAL RESOURCES..

Mineral constitute the bed rock of industrial sector.

Coal and iron are basic minerals needed for the growth of iron and steel industry . There are other minerals like mica and manganese ,copper, lead , zinc which are of economic importance.

Mineral fuel like petroleum, coal, thorium, and uranium which are of national importance.

Review on position of India in Mineral resources

WATER RESOURCES

FEATURES

India is one of the wettest countries in the world . Average rainfall is 1100 mm.

Water is used for various purposes.

Rainwater is collected and used for formation of hydroelectricity. Ground water resource is 3700 million hectare meters

UTILIZATION OF WATER IN INDIA

.

Domestic Industrial Agriculture

ROLE OF WATER IN DEVELOPMENT

Ground water and its proper use assume great significance for a country Water is used to make Hydro Electricity. Water is main part of industrial development. Water is used in agricultural activity.

FOREST RESOURCES

ROLE OF FOREST IN
DEVELOPMENT

Forest is important natural resource of India which is spread over 22 percent of total Indian area. In India , wood and other products serve as a basic raw material for several industries like paper pulp, newsprint , rayon, furniture etc.

Forest are a source of a number of minor product like bamboo , canes, grasses, essential oils, resin etc. Forest balances our biodiversity and controls environmental pollution. Forest is essential for Indian Monsoon ,which brings rainfall. The contribution of forestry in GDP is about 2.37 %.

FISHERIES

ROLE IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The industry or occupation devoted to the catching, processing, or selling of fish, shellfish, or other aquatic animals. India is sixth largest producer of fish in the world.

Fisheries play an important role in Indian economy by generating employment for a large coastal population.

Fisheries help in raising nutritional level and earning foreign exchange.

Fisheries contribute about 0.9 to 1 percent of India`s GDP.

CLASSIFICATION OF FISHERIES
RESOURCES

Inland Marine

In dollar terms exports earning from Fisheries and Marine product exceeds one billion dollar.

The Five year plans assign high priority to the development of fisheries because of necessity to raise the nutritional level of protein deficient Indian diet and to earn much needed foreign exchange.

IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING
FISHERIES

The importance of developing fisheries resources lies in the fact that they can act as a substitute to our land resources.
Plans from government :Establishment of

1- FFDA`s 2-BFFAD`s

India has vast potential of fishing resources comprising. 2 million square km of Exclusive Economic Zone for deep sea fishing. 7520 kms of coastline 29000 kms of rivers 1.7 million hectares of reservoir 0.8 million hectares of tanks and ponds for marine and inland fish production

All these resources are waiting to be exploited....

IN A
NUTSHELL

Land resources play a vital role in development of India . Water resources and its conservation is essential for Development.

Forest resources must be grown since it affects our development.

Mineral resources are one of supreme power for country development.

Fisheries not only bring foreign exchange but also raises the nutritional levels.
