OAHU AIRPORTS DISTRICT MISSION: Operate Honolulu International Airport (HNL), Kalaeloa Airport (JRF) and Dillingham Airfield (HDH) efficiently and productively on a self-sustaining basis. Take care of the traveling public, both residents and visitors, safely and securely.

BUDGET VS. REVENUE: FY 03 Revenue: $185M Costs: $108M ISSUES: Air passengers down 18% since September 11, 2001 and inter-island flights down 35% TSA Security Requirements: Passenger Security Lanes increased from 9 to 15 and to 19 in 2004. 15 Explosive Detection Units in ticket lobbies to transition to in-line system in basement. CBP Requirements : U.S. Visit Program which will include Visa waiver passengers in October 2004. Coping with Threat Condition Orange Security Costs doubled + $23K/day IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS: 5 worth $52M under construction 10 worth $105M under design BOTTOM LINE: HNL is coping with reduced traffic and increased security but needs modernization

SECURITY: Honolulu International Airport is a Category X airport that continues to enhance its security measures. Projects currently underway for implementation in 2004 include: 100% screening of checked baggage by advanced Explosive Detection System (EDS). The In-Line EDS protocol will be fully integrated with the baggage system. Six additional checkpoint security lanes to be added for efficient passenger screening and better customer service by reducing wait times. Reconfiguration of all existing security checkpoints to conform to the TSA Strategic Airport Security Rollout Effort SASR-II model for more efficient screening of passengers. EDS equipment and facility dedicated to handling cruise ship passengers.

ENVIRONMENT: Environmental management is an integral part of Honolulu International Airport operations. Equipment and procedures are established to maintain effective control on areas such as Noise Monitoring, Soil Remediation, Stormwater controls, and Spill Prevention, Control and Counter Measures procedures.
