Course introduction

This course is intended to be at the introductory level in a curriculum meant to provide foundation skills and knowledge for later IT related course units.

Together with Information Advanced I.T it provides an overview of the discipline of IT, and begins to instill an IT mindset (way of thinking)
The goal is to help students understand the diverse contexts in which IT is used and the challenges involved in3/2/2013 diffusion of the Asiimwe Charles

The course aims to: Give the students main guidelines for the future study of IT-related courses Develop their knowledge and understanding of; the components of IT systems and their interrelationships; The nature of complexity occurring in IT systems; tools and methods used in IT for managing complexity; the role of the IT professional as the user advocate; the necessity of life-long learning Charles continued and 3/2/2013 Asiimwe

On completion of this course unit, the students will be able to: Acquire main guidelines for the future study of ITrelated courses. Coursework (2 tests + Take home assignment) = 40% Final written examination = 60%

Method of delivery

Teaching will be in form of formal lectures, tutorials and discussions. Classes will be Interactive and students are expected to come to class prepared to contribute regularly to class activities & discussions.

My expectations..

I expect all students to attend class without fail. Most of the discussions we shall conduct in class will not be included in the slides.. A class representative has to be chosen from you. The take home coursework/assignment will be done in groups of 10. You are therefore required to form groups of maximum 10 students as soon as possible. The deadline for submission of coursework has to be respected. Late submission will lead to reduction of marks!
