PRESENTED BY : RASHMI GUNJANA SUREKHA NANDU

What is lateral thinking?

A Lateral Thinking Strategy by Edward De Bono It is used to look at decisions from a number of important perspectives. This forces you to move outside your habitual thinking style, and helps you to get a more rounded view of a situation. De Bono defines Lateral Thinking as methods of thinking concerned with changing concepts and perception.

Many successful people think from a very rational, positive viewpoint. This is part of the reason that they are successful. Often, though, they may fail to look at a problem from an emotional, intuitive, creative or negative viewpoint. This can mean that they underestimate resistance to plans, fail to make creative leaps and do not make essential contingency plans..

Can You Solve this Puzzle?

Suresh Purohit Founder of OliveTrips.com

Suresh Purohit envisions a better future through the lenses of creativity, innovation, societal application of technology and management of resources. He is a young manager and first-generation entrepreneur, armed with an engineering degree from Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology, Nadiad, a popular and reputable engineering institution. He worked in various roles in Indias corporate world, including project management, sales, marketing and technocommercial management for almost a decade before stepping into his own ventures. How did he apply his lateral thinking?

He founded an innovative and useful web portal. Suresh and his team firmly advocate theories of why not and its possible. OliveTrips.com is the first and foremost offering from them. The portal facilitates carpools, bike pools and shared automobiles/taxis/cabs in India. It collaborated successfully with pals.in (Pure Air Lovers Society), the largest online environment community of India. It is palsins official carpool partners, reaching over 1 million registered users. Since launching, OliveTrips.com has received inquiries from Africa to extend the service.

Where did the idea for OliveTrips.com come from? For a few months, he had been commuting to work via a road between Ahmedabad and Vadodara. It was around 120 kilometers . he had seen many corporate employees doing the same, but there was no system in place to bring them together to share resources. he also noticed that many cars and vans were travelling with unoccupied seats. Additionally, many commuters were in continuous and almost permanent searches for better travel partners. After visualizing the same scenario all over India, he decided to fill the gap and launch OliveTrips.com. It is a free service to all citizens and allows them to share vehicles regularly or occasionally. Its a well thought out and highly regarded project aimed at helping society, the nation, commuters and the environment. It works in autopilot mode without any manual intervention.

His belief: Interaction, reading and imagination are what bring ideas to life. We believe, in the world, nothing dies faster than a new idea in the closed mind. Many times, we apply various techniques such as brainstorming, wishing and unfolding techniques to generate ideas. Innovation has great potential to solve the problems of mankind. Trends that excited him? Internet applications on mobile handsets, the growing importance of innovation in Indias educational institutions and improved and tech-savvy government programs.

The easy-to-use web portal helps you to convert the vehicles like car, cab/taxi, auto, 2-wheeler, etc. into High Occupancy Vehicle by utilizing unoccupied seats with other like-minded persons travelling to on same path during the same time. As the name indicates, Olive stands for nature and is a colour darker than green. OliveTrips.com helps you to make enviro-friendly trips along with benefit of drastic reduction in travel cost. Since its launch on the World Environment Day (June 5, 2011), it has become immense popular and appreciation within India and abroad too. It has collaborated with pals (Pure Air Lovers Society) to spread green message and provide car pool facilities to 1 million members in India.

Any Indian citizen can register with Google Account and mobile number. The service would be extended to other parts of the world in the next phase. Registered users can form a carpool or bikepool for going to their workplaces or for attending classes. Travellers can accordingly choose to offer seats to other registered seat seekers, considering that such kind of choice comforts everybody in the loop and themselves as well. The portal also connects you to share taxi or auto to bring down fare.
