All appointed Guidance Committee members must be present Copies of the candidates presentation materials be given to the committee A member of the ECE Graduate Committee/graduate faculty nominated by the GPD will serve as the Committee Chair who will introduce the candidate giving brief details of prior degrees, research experience, and other relevant materials This introduction should be unbiased towards the exam The chair should also introduce the committee members and invited guests As the moderator, the chair should indicate the candidates presentation time, question and answer session for the public, and whether candidate can be interrupted during presentation After the question and answer session, the public should be dismissed before closed-door exam of the candidate

5 Financial Aid
5.1 Tuition Grants
$1,000 may be offered on completing 10 hours of graduate course work in a semester Tuition Grant recipients who withdraw from courses will be held personally responsible for repayment of funds utilized.

5.3 Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA)
GRA may be funded through the regular University budget process or from sponsored research projects The appointee is expected to participate directly in research or support activities conducted by faculty members The work load for a full-time appointment is normally 20 hours per week The minimum stipend for full-time appointment is $9,000 for Masters students, $10,000 for doctoral students prior to becoming a Ph.D. candidate, and $11,000 for Ph.D. candidates Part-time research Assistantships may be available

5.4 Special Doctoral Research Assistantship (SDRA)
The SDRA stipend is $10,000 per year The appointee shall be a doctoral student who is expected to maintain full-time graduate enrollment status The SDRA is funded by the Commonwealth sources and is designed as a continuing appointment for up to three years.

5.5 Enrollment and Registration Requirements
Assistantship recipients must be enrolled full-time each semester of their appointment Ph.D. ABDs may sign up for one hour Undergraduate prerequisite courses and courses taken for audit are not counted towards the enrollment requirement Graduate assistants may not enroll for more than 10 credit hours per semester Enrollment for 11 to 13 credit hours requires the approval of the GPD No graduate assistant is permitted to enroll for more than 13 credit hours in a semester in which the appointment is held

5.6 Unfunded Tuition Scholarship
Unfunded Tuition scholarships may be offered to graduate assistants Students must hold the appointment for more than one-half of the semester and the minimum support must be $2500 to qualify for full unfunded tuition scholarship At masters level, the unfunded tuition scholarship covers the difference between in-State and out-of-State tuition Doctoral graduate assistants receiving full tuition unfunded scholarships do not pay any tuition regardless of their domicile Unfunded Tuition scholarships can not be used for undergraduate courses
